Why is it that you can try to help those who post "help" questions based on the problem described and the technical terms used, only to find yourself feeling afterwards "why did I even bother to try and help?? >:( >:(
I have seen this happen to other members and I have just encountered it with a guy who wanted help with his "cam cover", only to find he didn't mean that and then proceeded to criticize ME for the advice given!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( So unnecessary!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! It makes me wonder why we bother, when I was only trying to help!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Being honest Lizzie I see your point but I read it asthough the Guy had missed the "Belt" bit off....
Also alot of people still remember them as "Rocker Covers" as they grow up knowing them as such.
I wouldn't take it personally mate.
Daz :y

Of course he was being Ruud, that's his name. :)

To fair to Ruud, I didnt get the impression that he was being rude to you Lizzie. Well not from what I could see anyway. :-)
-
Hmmm -- don't know about that Richard --- I had visions of an old age mechanic talking down to a female driver !!! Little does he know that Lizzie ( among other members of the fairer sex) could run rings around him!!!!

Something us men should all be striving for!

Whilst I am (generally) not in any way prone to 'over' sensitivity; I MOST certainly did read the reply to Lizzie`s helpful post as both rude, condescending and patronising; certainly NOT in the spirit of OOF and not appreciative at all. >:(
Marks DTM also (politely) pointed out that the poster was in error on the issue. ::)

Whilst I haven't seen said post, I wouldn't take it personally if I were you Lizzie.
As has been said, you've shown yourself to be perfectly competent around your mig. You freely offered your advice when asked but without being propmted, he can take it or leave it.
Arrogant or not, its his loss :y

i'm with you lizzie on this 1
ive just had a read at the thread
he started going on about leaving the cam cover off while driving which lizzie is right to say oil would shoot out which is true
he did not put cam belt cover till after lizzie told him about oil shooting every where
and he started talking down at lizzie
i agree totaly with lizzie and he should be made to apoligise to lizzie
as at the end of the day he started the thread wrong and lizzie went on the action on what he started the thread then for him to change it and not even say
"sorry i meant to say cam belt cover sorry"
very easy that to type the word SORRY
cheer up lizzie if he is a decent person that will except he is in the wrong will type those 5 letters and say sorry
-
Never mind Lizzie... We all know that women know nothing about cars :D :D :D
Runs away------------------------------------------------------------->
But in all seriousness, I think he was a little OTT! Perhaps he's having a bad day and will apologise later on. Don't take it to heart... It was sound advice for the question asked! :y :y :y :y

bit of crossed wires i think all parties need to take a chill pill ! different people call things by different names :o :o

I'm with you Lizzie. His terminology was wrong and confusing. No big deal in itself, but given that you had obviously tried to help him, I thought his subsequent tone was unnecessary.
However I think it is best ignored. I had a similar thing a couple of weeks ago - its just not worth getting stressed about.
Cheers,
Ian

I think its a bit to much male pride and instead of admitting he got it wrong he has tried to dig himself out but made things worse ::)
-
cam cover =? cam belt cover ;D
Lizzie have right..
But other than that I had interesting experiences with general help so dont want to comment anymore :-X
edit:
cam belt cover is there for a reason..
-
Im also on Lizzy's side on this. :)
Rather rude comments i must say.
-
I'm with Lizzy on this. It wouldn't have taken much to say 'Oops yes you're right, I meant cam belt cover' Cam cover is on top of the cams, cab belt cover...pffft its so elementary its not even worth explaining to him. Let him get a stone around his cam belt for all I care >:(
We all know you are a mechanical genius (for a lady! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D) runs ----------->
I bet this chap is the type that is never wrong....... ::) ::) ::) ::)

My cam cover has quite a few cracks and that did not improve when I took it off to change the timing belt.
I can see where Lizzie is coming from on this one, as highlighted he does talk about the cam cover, which obviuosly he is talking about, and then said he took it off to change the cam belt, again you wouldn't take the cam cover off to change the cam belt, thus his termanology is incorrect therefore confusing himself as well as others, like lizzie and myself which I had to read at least three times before I realised what he was going on about. The correct terminology MUST be used the correct way otherwise confusion will no doubt cause grief.
Then as the posts' continue he then starts to be sarcastic towards Lizzie then doesn't appologise due to the fact he was in the wrong to start off with then becomes quite rude towards Lizzie because she is a woman. Now I know a few women mechanics and they make good mechanics so don't knock em, we all might take the micheal a bit about it but they can do the job just as well as a man can.
I think Lizzie deserves a public appology from the said person.
This is just my personal view on this and I don't like people being rude to others trying to give help which is what this forum is about and to have some fun.
-
thing is will he be a man and say sorry to lizzie
or will he just hide like a mouse

he is offline now
but i have sent him a pm not being nasty only to say that in our opinion he should make a public apology in the general chat section

yes, and? In my opinion it has to be clear on a technical forum that when someone changes the cam belt, he/she does not remove the rocker cover.
I still don't understand why I have to apologise. It was all in good fun as far as I'm concerned and I'm sure if it was in breach with forum rules it would've been deleted.
