We had a few good friends over last night..............after a few bottles of wine and beer .............we started to come over all profound and earnest........with questions regarding the universe and the meaning of life.............the usual sort of thing when too much grog has flowed.
Anyway.............we wanted to know the speed of the Earth as it moves in space.
We knew that the earth has a circumference of approximately 26,000 miles .........and that it takes 24 hours to do a 360 degree rotation............so it's spinning at roughly......(count fingers and toes ) about.......1083 MPH.
But none of us had any idea how fast the Earth is moving on it's 365/366 day orbit around the Sun.
Any OOF boffin out there know the answer. :-/ :y :y

the earth orbits the sun at 19 miles per second
or 67,111 mph
-
IIRC from UNI: the Earth`s solar orbital velocity is about 18.5 miles per second.

well it was when eileen collins piloted the discovery.

Well ...................the old girl can certainly go at a fair old lick..............spinning at 1000MPH plus ...........at the same time as charging through space at about 67,000 MPH............no wonder so many people suffer from headaches. :y :y :y

No no no, the sun orbits the earth.
I see it go over every day with my own three eyes.

Left too right or top too bottom. :y
Why don't they just drop an anchor or use a hand brake......save a lot of dizziness. ;D

The missus felt it move last night! :y

Suprised we haven't hit something yet, at that speed! :-?

Don't try to follow it, or you'll fall off the edge. :o
