Title: Put my hands up!
Post by: Big Rod on 21 January 2007, 00:49:33
I'm a bit embarased by this, but thought I'd share it with you.

To try to cut a long story short, I was in a retail park near Dunfermline town, (notice I called it a town! the local press would like you to believe it's a city...................... It's not!!), centre.

I needed to get my car close to the outlet to load some packs of laminate flooring in the back, so I ordered the stuff and went to get my car so's it would be closer to, (right outside!), the shop.

So I drives the car down there and the space I wanted was perpendicular to the shop front, (awkwar to park in!), so I drove the long way round to get the best angle to enter the spot.

As I approached the space another car came from the other direction, so I hung back to let him pass.

The driver seemed to be bemused as to my actions even though I'd left him plenty of room to round the corner and so he starts to motion, (or so I thought!), that I'd not left him enough space to execute his manouver.

So I got on my high horse and gesticulated my reservations that he was a muppet and shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a car.

I reversed and let him through, but was incensed at his actions so reversed further and wound my window down to find out exactly why he was, (in my mind.), being such an 'idiot'.

I asked him what the problem was, and to his credit, he calmly pointed out that it was in fact a one way system and I was driving the wrong way!  :-[

I was absolutely horrified that I was such a moron! and apologised unreservedly.

Again to his credit the bloke said it was an easy mistake to make and told me it wasn't a big problem.

Big up to the bloke!! (Lot's of other f**kwits would've made a big deal of it!)

He'll never see this, but I am everso sorry!!!

(He was driving a Mundaneo tho' so I have some salvation I think!!  :-[ )

i came back from germany (whilst serving in the army) and was nearly sideswiped by a car pulling out from a right hand junction. as he gave ME a loud burst on the horn for what was obviously his fault i decided to pull over to correct his bad driving behavior.
i waved him down and he duly pulled over. "what was that bit of rubbish all about then" i said,  "it was you not giving way at a mini roundabout" he said.
after me apologising i realised that in my 6 month absence the council had put a mini roundabout at the top of a small housing estate. the warning signs had been removed two days earlier stating "new road layout ahead". so yep we all make mistakes !!!!!!

LOL... Some classic stories here :D

Apologising is the best thing to do when you realise you've made a mistake. I used to (and occasionally still do, although much less often now) get really worked up when someone done something stupid causing me to have to slam on the brakes or swerve. I've had a few near misses with people pulling out of junctions etc, and as soon as I'd finished avoiding a smash my anger would kick in and expletives would fly. If the other driver realised they'd made a mistake and gave a wave of apology or whatever it would instantly calm me down and that would be the end of it. It's the assholes who seemed proud of almost causing a smash that would really get me going.

Of course I've made mistakes myself, and as soon as I realise such I acknowledge the fact and usually feel like a bit of an ass for a few minutes :-[ Thankfully it doesn't happen too often these days, but it can happen to anyone with a small momentary lapse of concentration.

When I make a mistook, I generally apologise by a wave then blowing the other driver a kiss, be it either male or female.

I either get a smile, or a look of horror, or a smile, depending on the sexual preference of the recipient...

And, if they care to make a complaint to the Police regarding my driving error, imagine the statement...

'He did this and that, then blew me a kiss..'

Nahhh.. Don't think so!!   Street cred for the complainer right out the window!!     ;D

interesting story... i have one similar.

When we first came to the delights of Hayes, we were going on trips to inspect houses. There is a road between Hayes town centre and the station, its supposed to be one way only.

During the day, not a problem. Usual one way sign at the start of the street, however at night and this was the first time i drove down it, the sign is not illuminated.

Drove down it, la de daaa as ya do... only to get flashed and some git in a chavved up Saxo shout wrong way !%"$&"!£

How was I supposed to bloody know, first time in the area, and the sign was not lit!  :-[
