Title: Ford Focus Tyres and Speed Rating etc.
Post by: Mr Hagon on 09 March 2009, 10:18:26
SWMBO is upgrading her Fiesta to a Focus this coming weekend and it's going to need new tyres all round.

As I've noticed that they outer shoulder of the rear tyres is quite worn I will be taking it to WIM for the tyres and a geometry check.

But I can't seem to find any information on the tyres required.  I'm pretty sure they're 205/55/16, but I don't know the speed rating or load index required...

Anyone here know?

Depends on the model - sure my old Focus, what a piece of shit that was, had 185s on, H rated iirc.

Doh! Stupid me.  It's a 1.6 Ghia registered in July 2005 and from what I can make out it should be running 205/55/16s, but without looking at the Ford owners manual I'm not sure whether it needs V or W speed rating.

I suspect V, but not even a call to the Ford Information Service could prise any useful information out of them!

Remember, it has to exceed what the manufacturer specifies (regardless of speed), else you need to tell insurance co

Yep, I will be sticking with whatever the owner's manual says, in this case V speed rating will be the ones I put on.

:y

1.6 Focus can't do 130mph (bottoms out at about 115mph, maybe 120 on a good day, downhill, tail wind), but if its what Ford specifiy, thats what's to put on.
