does anyone know if police spec Omega's can switch off the abs as i saw one not so long ago doing speed tests, on the first run no lock up, on the second run locked up the wheels measuring tyre marks left

Sounds like it'd be a strange switch to put on the dash.   I'd guess more likely they just pulled a fuse for the second run?

They do for skid tests.

We normally pull the fuse, not aware of any 'switch'.

Does the fuse for the ABS affect anything else.

Reason I ask is that it's reckoned that driving in snow is better without ABS so you can get a build up of snow under the tyres which in turn creates a wedge under the wheels to slow the car.

I believe some car have a switch to turn it off

On the Omega, its fuse 19 and covers both ABS and traction control.  Generally, when skid testing, the road thats being used will be closed.  Its technically a crime scene so its not important if any other system is switched off when the fuse is pulled.

Saw them testing a few years ago in our village, the local nurse knocked someone down on a crossing.  Then did the tests with 2 different cars (quite a few times) and had SY99 hovering metres above the ground recording it all head on to the traffic above the crossong.

But I can vouch for the fact they can really shift around town on 999's, with some great handling characteristics! :y :y

But, a fault develops in the transmission that makes going in reverse sound like the gear box is falling out any minute!! :o :o :D

Bit of a side line to this discussion, but my unbadged 53 plate GLS gets some interesting reactions on the motorways from other drivers.....
