Title: Camcorder woes

I have a Canon MV890 DV camcorder and suddenly, after recording my daughter playing violin (she has an exam today!), it refused to playback. When I checked the tape a few minutes earlier, it played fine. Now, all I get is the blue screen and the tape counter. No picture or sound.

It's not that old, but I fear that the repair bill would be extortionate.  :'(

Has anyone any tips?
