Title: What does your handle mean / come from?
Post by: The Barge Captain on 25 January 2007, 13:13:32
Following on from Eddie Mathews thread on user names, it started me wondering how and why people here have chosen their particular user id.

I think mine is fairly obvious - The Omega is a bit of a barge, and I'm allegedly in control of her, which makes me Captain - therefore, for those who haven't got it yet I'm the Captain of a barge  ;)

Anyone else like to enlighten us as to the origin of there pseudonym?
Only if you are comfortable with doing so of course.

Jimbob

Jim and Bob

Just happen to me the shortened versions of my 1st and 2nd names

Not very original is it, or anonymous for that matter, and you dont sound a tit using it on the phone.

Phate is a character from a book "The Blue Nowhere" by Jeffrey Deaver. 321 is because 5 characters are not normally enough  or Phate is already used.
The book is really cool  8-)

As started in Eddy's thread, my name's Jonny and in the search for a bit of uniqueness (is that a real word?) I called upon my favourite band 'Rush' and possibly their most famous album '2112'. Simple really, and more effective with the avatar.

As for me. Quite simple.

I was noted for my very laid back personaity (until I began my current job!), and was nicknamed laidback. The 66 relates to the year I was born.

Now I think I have a personality more akin to Jaime!  :o

There is no Markjay... it was a mate's email address I used when I registered with V X O N just to ask a quick question (I don't normally give my own work email online), I couldn't think of a handle to make up so I just put in the first thing that came to my mind which was my mate's email address I was using...

I was in a hurry at the time and had no intention of spending any longer than needed on the site other then get the answer to my question (which was did Vx really change the facelift cambelt change interval from 80k to 40k, or was the Vx dealer just fishing for business?). That was a year and a half ago, the rest is history... when OOF was created, I kept the handle because other people that came over from V X O N already knew me by it.

For some reason this never occured to me!

BTW Britain is a leading bogie designer, quite a few of our designs are world class. A US company was building locos for the UK but their passenger desing was too heavy for 4 axles, they wanted to buy some Brush 3 axle bogies but Brush were so annoyed they didn't get the contract they inflated the price to about £750,000 a pair. The Yank locos are too heavy to go flat out and damage the track ;D

The 3 axle ones were fitted to this!

I was trying to think of an alias for myself on a game called Planetside. One morning, whilst taking my usual morning slash, I looked at my mop and bucket. It was a Vileda Supermop. So I called myself Supermop2000, which later got shortened to just Supermop. I was hungover, so may explain the slight eccentricity in which the name was born.

Its a very rare name, and no one has used it anywhere except me. Even in games like World of Warcraft, where they have like 7million subscribers. No one has Supermop or Supermop2000 as a name. Maybe because Vileda since named all their mops "Supermocio" - I just had an early eurpean model  ;D
