big exhausts seem to cause the engine to idle irratically

also if the police see them they will be obliged to give you a FPN or a court appearance for causing excessive noise

big exhausts draw unwanted attention

and if you ignore the police they will end up ceasing the car under Section 59A of the police reform act its happend to alot of boy racers round here and its not good

the 406 i had
i put twin straight through exhaust's that was very loud
i was pulled loads of times and sent to have a decibel check done on the exhaust to see if it was legal which it was

i used to love going down small streets with lots of cars parked up and keeping the revs high and see how many car alarms i can set off

but on the mig i just want a low burble on tick over and steady pulling away and cruising
and when i floor it for the the exhaust to give a nice proper v6 roar

i looked at putting a 3 litre back box on but was told miine was a 3litre back box because it's got twin pipes out the box
but i said there 2 tiny to be a 3litre type

I've got twin pipes right through to the back they're very loud when you put your foot down and when you start the car. I've never been pulled for them and I've set a few car alarms off but they are not too bad with normal driving :y

If you'd have done that round here you'd have got a few of us waiting behind a parked car and giving YOU a nice surprise with big sticks. ::)

My 2.5 Mig had a split in the back box and coz I liked the sound I didnt change it, made a lovly F1 sort of sound.  Every time I dropped my girlfriend off at her own home I used to take great delight in running close to some rsoles car to set his alarm off.  He allways parked like a twart and if emergency services like a fire enginges needed to get through there would have been problems.

Ok this is going to sound like a silly question but, what are cherry bombs, are they just these big exhausts the chavs use? in my day it was 'side pipes'   :-/

I think the car would suit them, may need a bit of a body kit to set them off, problem is the wheels, they are all flat, and not inset, or whatever the technical term is, you know what I mean :y

Side pipes and cherry bombs work on same principle - straight through exhaust path with no restrictions...
Used them both over the years, on V8 and V6.
Sound good and improve flow of exhaust by relieving backpressure on engine...

Best results obtained when they are fitted with no other boxes/cats etc..One of the best setups is to use these just in front of the back axle, with no other boxes....

For a setup with bombs in front of axle, your tail pipes would be made up so they are just pipework without back box...
No, I dont have these on my Mig, yet... ;)
Only had it 6 weeks, but will be transformed slowly...

Yes, best keep your back box then...  :y:)
However, it might be worth surfing the web to see if you can locate a back box that is straight through construction, or a performance quality back box...
Back boxes work by muffling sound by sending the exhaust around a maze of baffles. :(
Less baffles would still quieten sound, but give less restriction and a nice rumble...

Its the rumble sound your after, not the roar... :)

Have had a quik surf, but sadly nothing listed for migs...
However, some measuring of pipe bores, and maybe something would be compatible...
But, some of the back  boxes I did find were close to £200...!! :(

I liked the look of the Piper sports cat, almost non-existant, but meets legal specs... :)
http://www.pipercams.co.uk/exhaust/
A cat robs a lot of power from an engine, as will any box fitted so close to the front.

What will truly give the system its best sound, and performance overall, is tubular headers (manifolds), but the mig seems a bit tight on space down there...!!
They have been done though, custom made of course...
