If you look at the setup on the Omega, its the only way it would work.

There are some BMW bonded ones on the net in the USA but, theguy does not respond to emails.

Whats the pros and cons of each material, and why?

Polyurethane is much harder so is likely to make the ride a lot firmer.

I suspect it wont be suitable for the vertical rear bush as this requires quite a degree of flex

Can we clarify - which are the part numbers (for both bushes) for the heavy duty BMW equivalents?

I am interested if we can sort out which the right ones are.

Depends on the grade used - some can flex a fair way if the softer grades

iggy21uk - its the grade of Poly which determines the harshness.  The softer versions are virtually indistinguishable from rubber.  Depends on the new vs old grade...Shore is what they use for grading it from memory?

Shore hardness is a measurement of rubbers resilience. Used to be measured with a dial gauge which pressed a pin into a sample of rubber and registered accordingly. IIRC glass is 100 shore (highest possible as it doesn't give).

Don't know when he will be putting another order in?

Bit confused not sure I you want me to order , thats ok I will
or who wants the poly bushes at the beginning of the thread
Think you best send a PM if want me to order of Meyle bushes
And which ones you want.

Iggy, check your BMW bushes, make sure that the centre hole is concentric with the outer diameter.
I went down the same path as you a while back, comparing Lemforder, Meyle and GM partnumbers and plumped for a 750iL bush which fitted but had a slight offset. Handling was much sharper but tyres wore on inner edge even though camber was correct. I dont know if the offset is on all BMW bushes or just the one I chose.
When fitting the new bush ignore any alignment or 'thrust' markings...on the BM the bush is behind the axle so takes brake forces as a 'push' whereas the Omega has the bush ahead of the axle so brake forces are 'pulling'. Just make sure they fit in the same orientation as the originals.

Hi Iggy,

Don't want to put you to extra effort, but is it possible to check what Matchless says?   If that is correct, or their is risk, I will probably go for the regular ones.

Is that his order that is going in at 1400, or yours to him?

Sounds like you (set of 4?), me (2 sets of 4), Kevin (1 set) and maybe Scruntie would be interested.

iggy21uk – I would order one set (2+2) but I don’t have any tools to do it. Do you have a hydraulic press or using special tool? Any help would be welcome.
I bought a set of Bilstein/ Febi 10 monhts ago, but count be bothered to do it myself and mechanic has tighten up all screws before lowering my car. This way one of horizontal rubbers is leaking now…

BTW - How much is a Meyle idler?

I just asked at the place I had my MOT done (Woolhampton) - they have a press and would do it for a tenner.  I am sure any workshop is likely to have similar equipment.

Sorry – steering idler. I will have to check my suspension idlers as well.
Right – Ian is from Reading so I could collect it from here. I know that there are tools to replace bushings. It’s just few big washers/adapters with screw to push it in. Money is not a problem but the car needs to be on the ramp for a while…
I neew to think about the tool but you can add one full set of bushings for me.

Message for Iggy.
Being one of the "Front bush failure mob" at WIM on Sunday, I would be pleased if you would also order a set of the Meyle bushes for me.

If what you are calling a set is 2 horizontal and 2 of the vertical, then thats what I want.

Just let me know how much ££ to send you.

We need to decide if you place the order for all of them - can we then ring through individually to All German with our card and address details.    Or would they all get sent to you?  Then we need to work out how to get them..

Do you have any idea what delivery time is expected?

Now then, sorry ive left this a bit late but should we
be trying this on an old set first to see if all this is
possible? I mean, i wouldnt want to put a car on a ramp
Remove the wish bones take out the bushes and
Only then find out that the part does not fit, is not
right, cant be refitted or causes a problem of some
Sort to the handling when finished. If we had an old
pair kicking about we could mess about with those
Find the best part and the cheapest process and in the
Mean time if its no good stick the old wishbones
Back on and get the car off the ramp/back on the
Road.
What about an exchange service? Ok, getting ahead
Of myself now... Are we sure this is possible with the
Pressing out and back in process?

Yes, I have a press and the correct drifts to do the job, in fact I did TB's the other week.

The parts being ordered are the Merle Omega bushes so will fit and should be as per originals (Merle are a very good make)

Chris,  Are you ok going to Iggy's?   If so would be great if you could pick mine up at the time (and possibly Marcins/Kevins too - but I'll leave that to them!).

damn I got on this topic just a bit too late :(

Did anyone go for the beemer bushes in the end? Last time I had my motor up at WIM tony said that my front wishbone bushes were shot and I ought to get new wishbones.

By the sounds of things you need specialist tools to fit news bushes to a set of wishbones... all in all what will work out cheaper for me? buying new bushes and getting tony to fit them or getting whole new pattern wishbones and fitting them myself (or getting my £8.54 ph mechanic to do it!)

I still need to go to WIM to get my camber adjusted (which I paid for but didnt have done due to the bushes)

Is there any massive benefit to getting meyle/merle or beemer or poly bushes over simply buying new wishbones?

thanks guys!

Ben

Aaarghh! Been away and missed a bush order!

I would like to replace the 2 x Front bushes (horizontal?). Did anyone have any spares ordered or know the best way to get some?

I changed my wishbones about 8 months ago but i tightened them up in the wrong way (didn't think at the time) and I am now getting a nasty pull to the left under heavy braking.

Wish we'd have thought of the WIM replacement option.  Took ours to a kindly garage owner and used his equipment to put the bushes in the arms.

Lets just say the little one came with us, it was a family effort and all three of us were covered in black stuff by the end lol (mind u the garage owner did ask me if I wanted a job by the end.., didn't say the same to Jue for some reason, no idea why lol).  Not a good time for me to put the midget in a brand new Tshirt with white stripes!

Wanted:  Three sets of overalls, one midget sized :P

Chris,
(posting here as it appears you can't PM several people at once.. tells me I'm a spammer ;D)

Correct - 2 sets for me and I'm happy to collect from you Thurs/Friday - I work in Green Park so should be easy enough to arrange to get together.

Propbably best if you fix something with Marcin direct as I will be away imminently.

Kevin - I'm happy to drop yours into your parents place if you want - just let me know.     Chris - are you certain Kevin wants his picking up - would be a bit daft if he turned up at WIM when the bushes were in Reading;)

Cheers,
Ian
