im a bit worried about getting him one now its getting nearer the time, i know how wreckless i was when i was 16 on a moped. but it was my idea so he could get to college and home when he starts and i dont like him walking home from his mate late at night, very worrying being a parent  i know but cant help thinking hes not mature enough to have one.

Probably looking at £400+  TF&T.
My lad two years ago was £500 TF&T for Aprilia RS50

eeeek! Bet you cant wait till you have a couple of years NCB, and are a few years older!  ;D

I think I got off lightly - £609 Fully Comp with Direct Line (Im 21, with 2yrs NCB, and one 'cockup' on file!)

yes i am funding it all, unless he decides he doesnt want one now, he wasnt too sure at first when i asked him about it. i may give him the option of putting it aside for when hes 17 so he can get a snall car. his mums not too happy about me getting it and said its gonna be my fault if he has an accident

If he had doubts, perhaps give it a miss...??
If it was my son, i would opt for the car...even though more expense...

Love bikes, but these days no....

I would not buy my children a car or bike the same as I wasn't.

I am happy to help them get a banger or similar and get it sorted out so they learn as they go but, it can be to easy come easy go if its laid on a plate for them

We were never allowed motorbikes for as long as we lived at home, Mum and Dad were paranoid about the safety factor of letting a young inexperienced "youth" (i was 16 at the time) ride such a vehicle and that was well before the scooter scene became as big and "cool" as kids think it is these days........

Personally I wont be letting our 2 lads anywhere near them until I knew they have got the understanding of what can happen.

I was bought a bike but I had to maintain/tax/insure it myself, I took over the HP during holidays when I got a part time job.

In my parents defence, crap bus service, middle of nowhere, no car at the time, so getting me a bike was a cheap choice, even if it did get borrowed if dads bike was off the road.

I was in further education though (6th form)
