Bang goes my clean licence by the look of things.
This morning I received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for 41mph in a 30 limit.
Checked the location and it is the mobile camera van that often parked less than 100yds from my house.
The road in question is a 30 limit due to it being a residential area and the camera is located just after the end of the buildings, where the road opens up for a half mile of common ground, no trees, hedges, buildings, nothing at all, down to a roundabout that then becomes a 40 limit, but still the same open ground.
My question is, how do I request a copy of the photograph and is it possible to be a false reading off a vehicle coming out of the 40 limit towards the camera as I was passing ?As I previously mentioned, this van is less than 100yds from my house and I just can't accept that I was doing that speed especially as I know it's often there.
What is annoying is that there is a 1.5 mile stretch of built up, residential area that I often see idiots travelling along at what I would estimate to me 45-50mph and yet the camera is facing away from this area and is directed at the open ground, where most drivers are likely to accellerate into the 40 limit. (Profit rather than safety? Surely not !!)
The area was a flood plain, so you'll know what I mean by totally flat, open ground.

They wont release any photographic evidence unless it goes to court mate, I tried that one too.

When i got a nip in the post, not me driving, one of my rented cars.
There was a web address and password, iirc, on the nip somewhere.
I certainly could view the photo evidence on the interwebby :y
-
Nope, no web address or anything advising where to view on this one.
-
they have to release photo's - i asked to see mine a few years ago as i wasn't sure who was driving - and i'm fairly sure they have to let you see as the registered keeper is not necessarily who was driving but if you don't declare who was driving then the fine and points will go to the keeper sorry :(

Not sure about that, but there are websites about, giving pointers on speeding tickets.....one i can remember is a loose number plate, can give a false reading.....ie the gun is pointed at the number plate (as its needs a flat surface to get an accurate reading) if the number plate is loose and vibrating, it can give a false reading.

No, there wasnt on mine either.........You not thinking of that wind-up one are you where you put your cars reg in and it brings up a fictitious offfence?
Lincs Police wouldnt show me the pic of mine unless I took them to court instead of accepting the fixed penalty.

Nope im not.....i can definatley remember seeing the rear of my rented car from a web site....with speed in one of the corners of the photo....it think it was 36/37mph in a 30 zone.
Maybe they have changed it now :-/ .....it was a couple of years ago

seems they don't have to show you - but mine did :-/
-
If you get a NIP in the post you can request photgraphic evidence of the driver of the vehicle. Due to freedom of some regulation which allows you to request said evedence.

I can only speak of my experience, and they wouldnt show me the pics unless I took it to court
I just bit the bullet, I knew it was me !! :y

Maybe not all counties have this facility.....
I just went on Wiltshires speed cam site and certainly looks as you can view photo evidence

See the FAQ's down the rhs......suggessts you can view the photo evidence :y
-
having thought about it :-[ mine was from a fixed camera and they actualy sent me the photos with the NIP as i remember the before and after shot showing the marks on the road and i worked out the exact speed based on their time readings on the photo.
I told them i wasn't sure who was driving to stall for time as my insurance renewal was due in a few weeks ;)
-
When I was NIP'd a few years ago I asked for a copy oof the photos to confirm the identity of the driver and they sent them by post right away (didn't get my best side either!).
As for possible false readings, it's unlikely as the camera and detector are aimed at your lane. Being a mobile unit thhere is a chance he was off aim I guess ... fixed cameras take several photos and your speed can be calculated, independantly of the cameras reading, by reference to the road markings .... not so with a mobile.
The vibrating number plate theory probably relates to the old hand held muni-quip gear they used back in the late 70's. If you "pushed" the gun forward while taking a reading you could increase the speed of the target --- and in those days a flat target was best (VW Beetles were b*gg*rs!). Manny a pillar box was registered above the speed limit!!!!
-
Oh it was definately me. I'd have been en-route to work Saturday morning at 09:41.
Just baffled by it because I would have pulled out of my road and this camera van is hidden parked at the point where I'm still in 2nd gear. It's that close to my house.

I know how annoying it is mate !!!
I got done by a fixed camera that I go past 8-10 times per week !!!
I just wasnt paying attention one day and it got me

In holland you get a fine for that one and you always get the picture if you ask for it.
Good luck with it :'(

When i had my first speeding fine back in 2004 they gave me an option, go on a 1 day speed awearness training for £60.00 and dont get any points, i opted for that. 5 months later i was caught again and got the 3 points and a fine. ;D

On that day, at that time, I would have been driving for less than a minute. That has to be some kind of a record, surely. :D

Do I have to take it to court to have that Speed awareness course option ?
3 points is not going to affect my insurance etc but I've grown quite attached to my clean licence.

No mate, i was offered that.

Not all forces run courses (nice, rhymes!) and I think if they did then they would have mentioned it in the paperwork you have had?
Check your forces website for info.........?

It was the camera safety people who offered me that

Unless you can prove its not your car you have been done for speeding !
The Mig should go from 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds so if you were in it for a 60 seconds with your right foot planted its possible that you could have been 3 times over the speed limit.
So ask for the photo from the camera !

So had I,31 years until weds. night :'( :'(
-
No, it's an un-chipped 2.5td. 0-60 is about 43 minutes ;D
If it is correct and not a false reading off another car, then it's a fair cop. Just so annoying that I left my house and less than 100yds later I get done.
-
But, like me, we only risk getting done when we are speeding......
I am on 6 pts now, and drive for a living so am now being very very careful indeed

No, it was you, the camera is manually pointed at the car photographed. Fair cop...

Do you have to get nicked to go on these courses? Would be worth going on one just to sit there planning my exit from the car park. ;D

41 in a 30. almost certain, :'( no speed course offered
-
Speed course is generally offered to those "Unintentional speeders" --- they sift you out if you are doing less than 39 in a 30 area ( some force areas chose 35 I believe). Object being they consider you normallly tow the line, but just need a bit of a reminder. ::)

Well with 1 ticket in 27 years and my Average Consumption showing between 41-45mpg per week on general town and A roads driving, does that sound like I have a lead boot on my right foot ?
My mates reckon I'm bordering on Driving Miss Daisy material ::)
That's another thing...41mph in a 30 limit. That sounds almost reckless...but the other side of the roundabout is exactly the same wide open ground and is a 40 limit.
If I knew how to post an image I'd post one from Google Earth. Then you'd see what I mean about the built-up area behind whilst the camera concentrates on the wide open, dead straight, un-obstructed 30 limit.
Don't get me wrong, exceeding the speed limit is speeding...end of chat, but why are they ignoring the residential area behind the camera van ?? There is over a mile of houses with front doors that open directly onto the pavement. If a child ran out of one of those houses, the width of the pavement is all that seperates them from the road.

I know exactly what you mean - one of the most flashed stretches around here sounds about the same - but on that stretch of road the limit used to vary twixt 30 and 50 in mile stretches with no rhyme or reason as to which limit went where !! With the best wil in the world it was nigh on impossible to figure out which limit applied to any given stretch --- thankfully the powers that be finally figured this out and tidied it up!
