Title: Weekend chores
Post by: TheBoy on 05 April 2009, 21:24:17
Yesterday, MV6 has had a oil change and around 30 coolant flushes, new coolant bottle to cure the coolant warning. Also gave the lawnmower a once over, ready for the summer, clean and regapped plug, cleaned air filter, and a dose of Vx semi synth. Then thought I'd better use it - so that means that will be my weekly chore until autumn :(

Also, took the MV6 for a little 'test', fuel light was on, so chucked in £10 worth of BP.  Didn't last long ::)

Today, did the aux belt, right bastard for some reason.

Then as it was a nice day, decided to strip that old tractor engine thats been sat in my garage.  Stripped right down now, right done to the block.  Never knew those crankshafts where so flipping heavy :o

Knackered now, the amount of bending over as the engine was on the floor, I guess I'll regret it tomorrow  :'(

I got Mick Dundees car running very nicely today....and fitted some new door locks....and looked at an astra with a lumpy idle,

And changed the oil on the mower for the 3rd time in 3 mows (I will get it clean!)

I no longer have a grinder, so not sharpened blade yet.  I'll whip it off next time I see my little brother and let him sharpen it - if he hasn't killed himself with those duff brakes of his ;D

Blade...just the one!  ;D

This is a cylidner mowers so its coarse carborundum paste on the blade tips and rotate it backwards against the knife 100 times.

They cut paper quite nicely now!

Fancy a cylinder one myself, but this one still works fine, so will keep it until it fails.  Its Honda, so direct drive, so good chance I'll bend the crank one day ;D

Partially neglected it.  All my spanner twiddling for past 2 years has pretty much been on tractor. So, apart from oil changes, MV6 fluids have been untouched since the HGs were down last May (had 1 quick oil/coolant flush though about week after HG change).

The coolant was a bloody filthy colour...

2 Bloody checks on way to work though, HID Level sensor again, and bloody gearbox  >:(

Was the coolant low?  Mine wasn't, turns out it is possible to have 3 faulty 2nd hand coolant bottles in a row ;D.  £24+VAT for a new bottle cured the intermittent warning on mine ;)

Gearbox - worth checking level, and allowing a little to run out to check colour/condition. Only 1yr old, so if burnt, you have a problem

No, definately not, boy was she anxious on Saturday when I took her out for a spin.  Really shagged the brakes now though, I've filed the pad slightly, see if they come back when bedded in again, but wouldn't be surprised if it has some new pads and another brake bleed...

My coolant was low, bottle almost empty low  :'(

Gearbox has been getting little topups, fluid is manky as hell  :'(

Mark has suggested tighting the bands or something, but not tried it yet (plus dont have a 5nm torque wrench)   wouldnt suprise me if thrust washer gone as well  :'(

Drops out on a pretty much daily basis at the mo.

I'm thinking it could be new box time, this one is 130K and not happy.

Sorry to say I checked autotrader and ebay yesterday  :-[

also put new drop links on hers, do you need any spares?  ;D

Need to do her Dis pack, leads and plugs as well  :'(

My torque wrench goes down to 6Nm if that helps. No idea how to adjust band.  From memory, trush wash not too difficult itself, but getting box on and off can be difficult.

They may get used. Depends on what is found for the children when they are old enough.
