Title: Anyone know where the diagnostic socket is..
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 09 April 2009, 06:49:44
on my merc viano??
The air suspension has failed, its still driveable but the self leveling obviously doesnt work anymore.
Was gonna take it to Merc dealer, but they will want about £100 just to tell me what they think is wrong.....so thought id have a go at reading the codes, in case its a sensor fault or summat like......but im struggling to find the diag socket. 40amp fuse for the air suspension is ok.

Nah, it has to be within a short distance of the steering wheel and will be a standard OBDII interface at that age of van.

Normaly Merc put them near the bonnet release.

cheers peeps, i'll look underneath the steering wheel first then.

The bonnet catch is passenger side.....so thats not really close to the steering wheel.

The manual for it is totally rather useless......the fuse board layout, shows no resemblence to what i have. Also the the manual states the battery (with a nice piccy) is under the drivers seat......if it is, then someone has stolen it  ::)

Yes, i guessed it probably is......tho havent looked.....tho what gets me is the pic.....definately shows the drivers side....ie backrest is on the left....pic taken from the door.....guess they must move the battery about dependant on lhd/rhd  ::)

Found the diagnostic socket  :y

Under a flap underside of dash near kick panel driver side   :y

Bad news is......no faults stored  :( or is that good news  :-/
More good news is air suspension has decided to start working again  :y
It hasnt worked all week.....tonight i picked up 6 people.....light on dash started flashing....indicating incorrect ride height....then stopped flashing 10 secs later.....as its suppose to do.....when it wasnt working it just put on the light permanately to indicate fault.....so atm is ok again  :) hope it stays that way  :y

That's because you have the steering wheel on the wrong side, same as my Citroen, bit of a pain to be honest ::)
