Title: This disgusts me...

No, not the slap on the shoulder from a hairbrush, but the fact that the eight-year-old happened to mention to a teacher that his mum hit him on the shoulder because he wouldn't get dressed for school.

If he had known that, by opening his mouth, he can now only see his mum for two hours a week and will likely be scarred emotionally for life, he would not have said a word. But he's only eight, FFS!

Answer me this, you NSPCC idiots. What will ultimately hurt the child more? The hairbrush or being deprived of his mum's love and company for weeks at such a tender age.? These do-gooders get on my t*ts.

I agree entirely Nick, this is why this country is going down the pan and has so many social problems! >:( >:( >:(

We are not talking here about severe child beating, but a slap as we all had as kids!  The kid wouldn't go to school as you say, and the parent can go eventually to prison for that!! :(

It is all utter madness! >:( >:( >:(

Thanks, Lizzie.

I've had a further thought:

Occasional corporal chastisement for a child's gross misconduct = A Good Thing.

Systemic ongoing physical abuse = A Bad Thing.

The problem we have is that these social services and charities are quite unable to distinguish between the two (they only have one pigeon-hole).

My now sadly departed parents occasionally gave me a wallop when I truly went too far (and I did). I will never cease in my love and respect for them as they made me what I am today: an honest man who knows the difference between right and wrong.

It usually was and kept most kids on the straight and narrow, as you say Nick knowing the difference between right and wrong, which normally led to a 'safer' life :y :y.

I strongly agree with you and think that this is a totally scandalous piece of OTT scare mongering >:(.

It's because of do-good-er Pratt's like these that the jails are full of people animals that should be dangling from the end of a rope >:(.

Common sense has been banished, you need to think for yourself to use common sense and they dont like that,it scares them.
It,s been replaced by rigid dogma which permeates through any agency which is remotely official, and you mustnt argue with it,they like that even less. >:( >:(
Right and wrong are outmoded concepts, they are linked to morality and the ruling/chattering classes despise morality, just obey the rules and everything will be o.k. ;)

There must be much more to this story than is said. Mother has 2 children, only 1 in care. Mother has not been taken to court for a care order, so she must have agreed to her child being taken into care, no details about mothers ill health. A Magistrate can not remove a child, that would have been for the assault, nothing to do with child protection directly.
Children do not get removed for a 'one off' hit with a hair brush, and yes I do believe that in some circumstances a smack is justified. ::)

Please pity my wife who has to work with these people every day. They are a breed apart and seem to have no idea how the 'real world' works.
How on earth we dont read about desperate parents gunning them down I'll never know. (I would).

Stupid if you ask me!

My mum gave me the odd smack here an there. End of day, If I did wrong, I knew about it!  ;D And I soon stopped!

I dont see the problem, Its an effective way of educating us.

It not like shes constantly hitting him with the brush because she feels like it is it? That would be a different story!

Agreed..................but not always easy to tell when one becomes the other. When does a gentle tap become a slap .....then a punch.......which to a small child could be life threatening. :y :y

i'm a father of 4 ranging from 18 to 14 and i agree wholeheartedly and think corporal punishment at home from time to time where needed is not a bad thing...in fact i'd say that since corporal punishment was stopped in schools childrens behavior in general has deteriorated now we have this chav respect for nobody attitude that a lot of young people have ...just watch night cops on sky one and listen how these lot talk to police officers...in the states they'd either knuckle u or shoot u for it...lol

I think common sense should come into play when dealing with kids!  And, in this case, it appears to have gone completely out of the window!

Unfortunately, there are plenty of kids in real need of protection who are nnot getting it because, time, effort and resources are being squandered needlessly elsewhere  >:(

The nanny culture we now have to suffer is a total nonsense. Nobody wants to see children beaten but a slap never harmed anyone I was legaly beaten with a cane when I went to school, we seem to have gone from one extreme to the other. I blame the tree hugging do gooders, they are responible for the breakdown of our society. OK rant over  >:(
