Well, Supermop finally has his practical driving test today at the ripe old age of 21. ::) Following a stupid misdemeanour when he was 18 whereby he lost his provisional licence for some time ( :-X), he'd not bothered taking it until now. He passed his theory a few weeks ago and today is the moment of truth. Good luck Greg :y
-
Hope it works out for him. :y
If it does, then is that an end to exclusive use of your own car? ;D
-
Yes, good luck supermop.
Just don't be a idiot again and lose it again :y
-
Good luck to you Greg. :y

He actually does have his own car now, he bought a 1.4 Ford Escort for £350 just before Christmas which is a good runner but he obviously hasn't been able to drive it yet. Provided he passes today AND can afford the insurance, I'll have exclusive use of my own car again to a certain extent, but as Greg works for the same company as me and it's about a 22 mile journey each way, it makes sense for him to come with me.

Best of luck Greg :y
-
Fingers crossed :y

Never know he may want your car in the future, then he could take you to work. ;)

Good luck Greg - what was the silly misdemeanour?

:-X :-X :-X
I'll let Greg spill the beans if he chooses to. ::)
-
Thanks guys. Think I'll be driving the miggy to and from work if I pass now ;D
Yeah, I don't mind spilling about the opps up, all those years ago... (I was 17 actually dad)
Went out for ciggies at 2am, and got pulled over. Silly me forgot I'd had about 6 or so pints of strong lager earlier on that evening. I got an 18 month ban, and a £350 fine which dad kindly picked up for me. Was somewhat traumatising being locked up in the court cells and being in the dock at court. Don't think that will be happening ever again. You know how it is when your a teen, thinking your invincible etc. :-/
-
Best of luck with the test, Greg
Made faqs rather expensive :-/
-
Yes possibly the most expensive packet of cigs i've ever smoked. I quit smoking now anyway.
Test result: cancelled
Reason: the driving instructors at loughton are w****rs and went on strike action. They will of course get nothing for it except a day off and costing the DSA a fortune in refunded lessons and tests, since none of the other centres did it. I sense some sackings coming up for them. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Was so psyched for it too, my instructor said my driving was brilliant and I would have passed.

Thats sods law >:( do you think you'd be able to get a free retest at all, only a mate of mine managed to get one when his first test was cancelled due to instructor calling in sick.
-
What a pig you should get a free retest if they cancelled
-
At least lesson learnt
I hate strikers who mess up everyone else
Especially when it is the Post Orifice, as once when I was unemployed, my cheque was stuck in post (the cheque paid for by my NI contributions), and I was broke, even rode to the sorting office to ask for it, they said strike on so I said thats OK get some more staff, plenty at the job centre!
Since then I have been horrible to striking postal workers*, there are always other jobs!
* Always when something important is due me and stuck!

Sorry to hear that m8.....hope you get a retest soon....im sure your pass 1st time :y
-
Also I had to send a birthday card CityLink once because the local P/O sorting office was skiving again
-
Tough luck Greg - still it gives you more time to practice push pull for the last time :y
-
Bad luck Greg, you'll pass with flying colours when you get to take it :y
-
What a bu**er!!.....bad day all round!!
Got all prepared for a bit of a celebratory drink in the pub while watching the Spurs v Arsenal cup game and bloody Spurs lost too!! >:( >:(
Oh well.....at least Greg's got another go - unlike Spurs (in this years cup anyway) ::)
-
Yeah, knew that was gonna go to extra time... barstewards.
DSA are refunding my test, 3 hours of lessons (£75) and half a days work. Not all bad I suppose.

Result!!
Remember for tests be positive in your driving, they hate people who hesitate. I got 2 minor points in my test for speeding twice!
I passed first time ;) :D
Yet a mate failed his test for constantly doing 50 in a 60 zone!!
Drive as close to the limit as possible at all times (i sounds stupid but that's what they look for) don't be too cautious at junctions :y
-
Good luck supermop....Greg :y.....Sure you'll pass no problems, if you ever get a chance to sit the test ;D ;D :y

Oh yes Tunnies right....tho it was a while ago i passed my test....but my instructor told me...i had a lesson on the morning of the test.....he said drive like you've been driving for me before....your too hesistant today....drive upto the limit....as it indicates to the examiner you know the speed limit :y
Best of luck Greg :y

Confidence is the key. I pulled out infront of a bus on a roundabout and when questioned, I simply replied that I could see the bus could not fit through the gap of traffic ahead and would have to stop and the guy behind me was so close if I broke hard he would have hit me for not pulling out. Fair enough he said you've passed. I've been bulshatting ever since :y
-
lol thanks for the advice guys. i've always been a confident driver... thats not a problem at all. my only downfall may be over-confidence, but my instructor has been working with me on that. driving at the speed limits is not a problem, i've always done that, even in lessons.

Sounds to me you dont have anything to worry about.
Good Luck with the retest :y

Just take care when you do pass - over confidence is dangerous.
Everyone should have a significant accident (but obviously walk away from) to remind them...

Which is probably why I'm over-cautious at round-abouts....
