Agreed............Some of today's youngsters music is a worry, and I am not comparing this with parents in the 60's talking about rock and roll :y

My music is varied but well over 50% being rock. The Eagles is as near to C&W as it gets for me, but I have to admit, this is pretty good.

Well - wretched C&W songs are always about:
Divorce
Dogs/ horses/ best friends dying
Cars being wrecked on the highway
Wives/ girlfriends running off with best friend (unless he died - see example 2)
And usually in Walz time too!
So - playing them backwards means the causes of the songs work in reverse and:
You stay married
Dog/ horse/ best friend lives for ever
You drive safely and your car becomes a museum piece
Girlfriend/ Wife is so damned unattractive that nobody is interested & she stays to haunt you for the rest of your life
( personally I prefer slip jigs in 9/8 time but then I am a Ceilidh musician)
Shimples! ::)

Ray Charles said there are 2 types of music, good music and bad music.Imo a lot of country music is very definitely bad music, but Johnny Cash,Willie Nelson and Hank Williams are definitely good music. ;)

I guess then that not too many members of the OOF watch Rural tv on Sky 279.  Try it and look out for the Marty Stuart show. You will be musically rewarded. :y

Country, western, rockabilly et-all expressed the feelings of people who hadn't much access to other forms of entertainment.  It sprang from the poorest in the worlds richest nation.

The message, for the most part, is one of honesty, simplicity and a reflection of the hardships of everyday life.

My own tastes rest on opera but I embrace ofther forms of the art - jazz in its various guises, progressive rock and so on.  The important thing is not to discount a genre based on the apparently vacuous nature of its essential components.

Well performed country music is well worth a listen....honestly.....really

Music, as well as the spoken word, needs to be heard - as well as listened to :)

would also add that if John Prine is considered as country (not sure) he is also another brilliant country artist, his lyrics are superb.i.e. Sam Stone,Flag Decal and many more. 8-)

The other Band (Pitchfork) can be seen all over Wessex, except that most gigs are private events
