Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 17 April 2009, 12:48:56
.....hardly a pulling wagon and not as refined as the Omega but, it managed 50+mpg on my commute!

Nice looking car Mark, we used to have a couple of those at work, not too bad to drive, but as you say no where near the power of the V6...

Its no slouch....150bhp but, 0-60 is slower than that of the V6.

Does that make it faster than a 4 pot omega? :-/ Or does the omega have a huge torque advantange?

There's really very little room around the motor.  Just about enough for a feeler gauge.

Looks nice and clean though.  Is the front bumper new?

Was a passenger in was of those last week, same colour and year.
Was impressed from were I was sitting how smooth and quiet the drive seemed, it was the diesel.

More torque (loads more!) and more power than the 4 pot Omega

Looks very nice. :y

Having seen the ease with which a mate of mine bundled his kids, toys, etc. into the back of his Zafira a couple of weeks back I can see the attraction.

50mpg+  :y

Best I have ever seen was the old 1.6 Astra diesel van down to Swanage.  Got arround 60mpg.  Was told it had an oil leak before I hired it and they gave me 5 litres of oil for topping it up.  :-/  Checked the oil before I went and forgot to put the filler cap back on, didnt lose a drop there and back, and the engine wasnt covered it oil either.  Was impressed for what it was.

Out of interest, what did your Miggy avearge on your work runs, was it a 2.5 or 3.0.

Did some calculations at work yesterday discussing fuel.

My car is the most expensive and the least expensive daily use vehicle for cost per mile.

I get roughly half the consumption of a Diesel Mondeo X-Type, someone else gets 40mpg out of a 318is, but Diesel is expensive amd petrol is cheaper but nowhere near LPG prices.

I think Mrs DTM maybe have had the a say in what car was the replacement.

A elcheapo 600 quid Omega, could have been the way to pile the miles on, just 50k say, then scrap and replace again.

But i think time in maintaiance, and family needs forced the mummymobile.

If i had a large mile commute in the car, i would run my facelift into the ground, then buy another one for less than 3 figures, and do the same!

Very good.

You want a design, SRi or Elite, the rest are a bit basic (I have an Elite).

The 150bhp version also gets 17inch wheels, ESP and stiffer suspension.

There is no difference in CO2 or consumption between the 2 engines (although they are different power plants). Beware the autos as they are 2 tax bands higher and quite a bit more thirsty.

Lol, I actualy wanted a crew cab pickup but that was not allowed!

If I could have dropped onto a reasonbaly priced 2.2 Dti Omega estate I would have probably gone for one.

Its not new, it was registered in Feb 2008 and is a 2008 model year (although 57 plate) with 13K miles on it.

I had to clean it today as I got it at cost price so it had not been fully valeted (although it was serviced) so out came the clay bar and polishing mop etc!

I also got given a full kit (on the quiet) of this mega expensive auto glym treatment they try to sell you.

I used it but, it consists of nothing more than the following:

A Rainex equivalent
A washer bottle additive
A good polymer wax
A bottle of spray for the upholstery.

So in reality you dont get much for the £200+ they try to get you to part with!

For anybody considering such treatment, just get it clayed, mopped and use a good polymer wax (e.g. Meguiras Next Generation) and a bottle of rainex!

Ow yes, the mig was doing 37-38 mpg on my commute.

Ok - this must be the same engine as my Signum - what you will have to keep an eye on particularly during warranty is the clutch rattle. This will be the Dual Mass Flywheel system on this engine (I think it is a fiat engine by the way so very robust and is prepared for hard work) and it is a fault especially on the original factory fit. First sign of any problem get it to dealer and get issue logged and do not be fobbed off. A lot of people get screwed on this by VX as they claim driver abuse which it is not. If it should happen to you (hope not) then ask for copies of the photos that VX dealer will take to submit to Luton. Repair is about £1400 clutch and dmf and I know people who have paid even with car in warranty as they were convincvd by VX it was driver abuse.

Apparently when changed like mine was under warranty you do not get further problems. Another VX common fault they will not hold their hand up to. The fault is due to the torque on the 150bhp engine.

Having warned on this the drive will be great. I was aware of the dmf problem BEFORE i bought the Signum and actually flagged up with VX before purchase. They changed mine under warranty without too much of a fight at 16000 miles.

Lol, no issue there. Very aware of the few complications (EGR valve sticking....note new there with any manufacturer!, particulate filter clogging on short journeys - software update all but cures that plus T2 can do a re-gen which is interesting to watch!).

Vx introduced a new DMF about 6 months ago....I had it fitted to mine on Wednesday.

The box is not such a problem on the ligher cars....I have actualy only seen them have an issue on the tuned up ones or those where the driver has forgot how to use a clutch!

I note there are some with these lumps running at 200+bhp!
