Reminds me, I really must get around to removing the Carin from the MV6, as I really need the space in the boot for york, and I have the NCDR satnav fitted anyway.

Trouble is, that means the radio has to come out again to get the screen out, and I hate doing that, as the aerial plugs that Vauxhall use really, really, really are really, really, really crap!

As soon as you switch it on, it should find the satellites and tell you where you are. I mean, that's the point, surely. My cheapo binatone never puts a foot wrong (except the time I got lost in a black hole in Nottingham)

it knows where it is within a few minuites iof power up! you can input your rough posistion to kind of help it

anyway i gave up with locating the aerial on the dashboard so i relocated my GPS Aerial in the back parcel shelf behind the little grill thing works a treat :y

if its an elite though that might not work as the rear blind :-?

The Carin needs to be told where it is (once).  If yours loses this after ign off, back to the wiring, check it has a perm 12v, as well as ign 12v.

is it best to move the attener under that mesh bit near the rear window

Thats irrelevent - if its losing location as you switch ignition off, you have a wiring issue

Right - once you have set the car location, does it track properly from there on? Is it only after you turn it off it loses its locations?  Yes or No answers to both Qs.

when i first plugged it in it comes up track then 2d pos or somthing like that

when i turn the ignition off then back on and don't move the car it comes straight up 2d pos

if i move the car then turn ignition off then turn back on it does cum up track for a bit then goes to 2d pos

FFS, I dont give a toss how many effing satelites it can see - that really DOES NOT MATTER on this unit.

DOES THE CAR STILL KNOW ITS LOCATION AFTER IGN SWITCHED OFF.

YES or NO

Brilliant :y

So when you drive down the road, does it know when you hit the junction at the end? Or does it still think you are outside your house? Or elsewhere?

Assuming the roads haven't changed near you lately, the map should be fine.

Back in the service menu, is it seeing speed pulses, and does it show FWD in all gears except REV?

How many speed pulses at walking pace?  I'll compare it with mine.

right got in the car this morning and set the car position
and moved the airel from the boot to the inside the back window

the car knows where i am all the time and when i put destination in it knows where to go turn by turn

even when i turn the ignition off and leave it for a while and go back to it, it knows where i am and where to go

and i'm getting in between 6 and 12 satalites

cheers for your help tb and all else that helped :y
