Title: york meet query
Post by: nick v6 on 18 April 2009, 18:45:49
been messing round with a streamin program
and got it to stream live video over the net

does anyone know if there is net access at the york site
was thinking off taking laptop and camera and streaming live video from the york meet to this forum for all those who are not able to attend can view from here

as long as that was ok with admin

doubt there is internet access, and streaming like that does require plenty of bandwidth with low latency.

We did do similar at the Brackley cambelt meet (until it started to rain and my lappy got too wet ;D), and about 3 concurrent viewers is the max on a fast (in consumer terms), clean, low latency connection

I'm sure there will be plenty of photos once we return, and OOF has the facilities to host videos, so if there is a rematch of the North v South footy match from Lakes 07......

I wouldn't use it for streaming - the bandwidth will muller your allowance, and the end result will be unsatisfactory over mobile broadband

Think it's unlimited surfing, anything else might cost more or not work too well. I'm FAR from an expert. Should allow us to post though!

Hmm... We could always set a laptop up with ICS (internet connection sharing), and I could bring my wireless access point down... Or am I just REALLY over complicating things here?  ::)

I have a tendancy to 'get a bit carried away' lets say...

I did plan on bringing a BIG projector down so we can watch DVD's / play games etc... but I dont know if thats a bit OTT? What do you all say? Yay or Nay? ;D

And when I say BIG... I mean friggin big!  ;D

So, have we got some PC experts going then?
Could I bring my lap top for someone to look over it and check it out?

It will have a usage limit - more than adeqaute for a bit of surfing though - but I'd not get into the streaming thing.  Plus this type of streaming will be poor of mobiile broadband.

Also, may also be an issue around the proxy, I wouldn't bother...

Nah don’t be daft! We will all be having a laugh talking about Mig's, eating and drinking!  ;D :y

The video stream though… simply put, I’m sorry to say it won’t work really.

Agreed - its not great on a (A)DSL line, so absolutely bugger all chance of being any good on mobile.

If someone wants to take a video camera, we can host footage on OOF :y - footie aside (if it happens - last time nobody was really fit enough!), 10s or less clips all edited together work best imho

I also have orders, at some point, to take her around the big church, and she wants to look around the craft shops - might let her go into town on her own for the latter ;D

Bugger off with Mark then

The NRM is a fantastic museum, well worth looking around for anyone who appreciates engineering
