I switched my laptop off last night and now it wont connect to my wireless network...It keeps coming up with enter network security key or passphrase for bertiecbx550....I type in my passphrase and then it comes up "the network security key is not valid"...but when i turned my pc on it found the network and connected straight away...Any ideas as i`m losing my rag with this laptop now..... >:(

try logging on to your routers web page so that you can check you pass key! ;)
-
No good folks it wont log on it now comes up low wirless signal and its sat next to the router!!! bloody thing.....looks like i`ll have to call 1 of those ads in the paper to get it sorted out.... :(
-
Log on to our router via your PC :)
Are you sure you are using the right key ;) CAps maKE a difference! :)
-
dont know how to log onto the router.... :-[
-
Usually - open iexplorer and type http://192.168.1.1 into browser. This should link you to the router - will probably ask for a user/password - default on a lot is admin/admin. Once in you can check/change wireless passkey.
-
You have to connetct through normal wired Lan port.
Then go to the specified adress which is something like " http://168.12x.xxx.xxx". It should be written in the router manual. From there you should be able to check and change all the settings of the router including network name, password etc...
-
on the bottom or back or side of the router there will be an IP address something like 192.168.0.1
also there will be a U/N and P/W
what make of router are you using? who is you service provider?
Dont worry we will get you up and running without paying for some chimp to come and sort it! ;)

ok...this is now officially confusing i`ve logged onto the net gear site and it might as well be in greek cause i dont understand 1 single word of it....wheres sammy sledge hammer!!!! >:(
-
its a netgear wireless g router WGR614 v9 and its virgin broadband 10meg.... :-[ :-[ :-[
-
the username and password are on the bottom (something like virgin password)
Netgear routers sometimes need a restart if they have been left on for a while so try that.
-
on the left hand side of the screen you should see a list of areas to view!
go in to security and your looking for wireless!
in there you will find your WEP key
make sure this is the same as what your typing in when it askes you to!
also check that wireless is enabled!
dont change anything in there tho or you will be buggered!
-
Switch off and switch on again . :y
-
Ok i`ve got online with the laptop...But via a plug in belkin dongle...the internal wireless will not log on at all??? i`ve been to the netgear site and i`m as confused as ever.... :-[

I`ve got a nasty feeling the wirless on the lap top has stopped working..but i dont understand how?....it has not been dropped or bumped and when not in use it goes into the bag out of the way...I wonder what happend to it..All i did was turn it off as normal and then try to go online again this morning when i could not sleep.....and now nothing...except via the dongle...this is weird....
-
it may just be that the wireless software on your laptop or needs updating. If you were so far away i would offer to drop in and and take a look at it for you as i have become rather good and getting the god knows how many laptops im my household to work with the worst router ever (not sure if i should say which one but the ISP was voted Worst ISP for 2007)
Also, now that you have said its the laptops built in wireless wont connect, you can rule out it being and issue with the router (very rarely that it is anyway) (NOTE: just so other people know, to get on the routers setup page its will be either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 and, with nearly all routers, the DEFAULT U/N and P/W will be admin for both)
Could i trouble for a little more info on what the wireless software is? be it windows own or something like Intel PROSet/Wireless, i might be able to assist in a solution or possible updates

Isn't there an actuall mechanical switch on a laptop to turn wireless on & off?

I think its realtek wireless lan...I`ve been to the toshiba web site but it keeps losing the connection or coming up document contains no data....and it only happens on that site and i cant seem to find any other driver update sites except for those dr.driver and other rip off sites...Its weird this as the laptop detects my router and connection but will not connect to it via wireless(built in) and connects straight away with the belkin dongle plugged in and the pc has the same dongle and connects straight away as well..Its got tobe a driver missing or malfunctioning i just dont understand how a driver can go away like this...I always thought they had to be deleted and i`ve not done that or anything like that recently... :-/

one thing you can try
is using a system restore point and taking it back to before the wireless part went down
sometimes it will recover anything that was accidentley taken off
worth a try
if you have put anything important on the laptop tho in the past few days try and save it to a dongle as everything that was put on after the restore point will be removed
-
Generaly speaking, system restores dont change things like saved files... so it may not bring back fles that may have been lost other that key registry files.
I do have a Driver scanner program (not one of those fake pay us £30 for sod all things, this 1 actually works and is legal) again its just the fact that i live nowhere near you to come round and run it.
