Title: Any Fish Keepers on here?
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 19 April 2009, 12:57:43
Every now and again I have a look on Ebay thinking one day I may get a setup.

Just been on and found this for sale.  must have been one serious keeper.

Theres a guy in Sheffield that builds tanks to order, a few years ago he got a builder to put some H girders in and went on to build 2 long tanks, they must have been 8 to 10 long.

He put Marine in one and Tropicals in the other.  I was just faciated by the miniture Sharks which he said would grow to a reasonable size based on the tank.

Just checked the net, seems he is still in business but no web site, was looking for a picture of the tanks.

not a big fan of indoor fish (got the daughter a tank with 3 fish last week and we're down to 2 already :-/)

Do like pond fish though, very relaxing watching the Koi swim about to the gentle sound of running water, ahhh..... :)

Had some tropicals a few years ago.

My Mum had a couple of baby size ponds she used to love messing about with, had a four fish, nothing special, but had a problem with frogs.

I must admit I have allways fancied a 2 or 3 tiered cascading pond set up.  Maybe one day.

Whenever I see fish tanks I always think of my then to be father-in-laws set up, and when I accidentally knocked the lid, complete with 240v lights, into the tank and just stopped myself reaching into the  water to pull them back out! ::) ::) ::)  He was powering them from a 13amp socket from a fuse box prior to RCB's! ::) ::)

Always fancied though having a big fish tank, but what if I broke the glass?  I live in a third floor flat!! :D :D ;)

Dead, with Beer or Drugs  :(

The one with Reed and Keith Moon sitting at their table in a Restaurant, waited a couple of minutes and no waiter, so Reed picked up the table slung it through the window then casually sat back down.... the waiter was there within seconds  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Don't think they make them like that anymore :(

No, there are not even pop groups trashing hotel rooms or wrecking their guitars on stage anymore :o :o :o.  They certainly made the news and created a strange form of fascinating comical entertainment! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Even the hotels were well compensated for their troubles. ;) ;)

Hi Skruntie we have a sizeable fish pond at the end of our garden.

About 35ft x 25ft. It is full of golden carp, some of which are 20 inches long. Goldfish, and many others which I'm not sure of.

It came with house when we bought it 5 years ago. Only problem it must have a leak because it constantly needs filling with  water.

Some of the fish have bred, a golden carp has materialised. We call him Kryton because his head is the same shape as the android in Red Dwarf ;D ;D :D

Aye we have a pond too, Infact ive just gone and bought a UV light thing for it today, got it wire that up some time this week.

Ive always wondered about marine setups, but dont know anything about them.

Do they require more maintenance / extra Equipment etc?

How big is the sump tank? Guessing it could be used as a normal fish tank still??  ::)

I did take some photos of my main tank few weeks ago, will have to see if I can find them!

as far as i know marine is a full time job but never tried it, as for the sump tank its got baffles siliconed into it but would cut out o,k, its 3`long, 12" wide & i think 15" deep [approx]. also got loads of external filter units knocking around, im not trying to sell them on here as its a miggy forum, unless you are thinking of putting a water feature in the boot of course ;D

They reckon keeping marine fish is no harder, and thats its all about getting the water right from the start.[/quote]

Even for tropical that can take months, and several lost fish along the way. :(

I tired to build a protein skimmer the other day... didnt work!  ;D

Unfortunately I lost a few fish a few weeks back (just after I took the photo... I lost 2 out of the 3 zebra danios which ive had for a year or two, the tetra which ive had for at least 3 years :-( and a baby guppy) I think I upset the balance when I went a bit OTT cleaning the tank + filter out  :-[

I've never tested the water levels before in any of my tanks... And today I decided to treat myself to a test kit.

All the levels were either non exsistant, or bang on where they should be  :y Wooo!

God knows how TBH,  as i've been lazy with the tank since the last load of fish died  :-[
