Title: Getting cross now!!
Post by: wingman on 24 April 2009, 20:58:17
Well after the local stealers have had my mig for two days (!!) for a service MOT and cambelt I finally went to collect it tonight and found the following:-
MOT - done passed OK
Svce - done (allegedly - will check more closely tomorrow)
Cambelt change - done after taking 8.5 hours!!!

On checking vehicle I was told - "It seems to be idling a bit high"
Oh yes - 1000 -2000 revs hunting all over the place!!
Servo vacuum pipe clip at rear of plenum missing
Rear Cable tray bracket and bolt both missing
Front cable tray bracket bolt replaced with incorrect type - not hex
Rubbing noise from cambelt cover at idle comng from either Pulley/Aux Belt/Cambelt
Locking wheel nut set left out at request of reception -  now missing

At 6:00 pm I gave up and told them I would be back tomorrow AM when I expected this lot to be corrected. On arriving home I thought I would have a look at the idling problem, having only recently corrected this from a self inflicted fault. Result - found pipe hanging off from LPG vapouriser that they said they had moved to remove cambelt cover. Replaced pipe and idles beautifully.

I have rarely come across a more incompetent bunch of merchant bankers than this. When I take my vehicle to them and pay £650+ for the "privilege" of having them work on it, I expect it to come back as I left it, not with bits missing or buggered up.

Having got that off my chest I will now shut up and save my further tantrum for tomorrow.
PS Has anyone got a clip between servo and AC pipe that they would let me buy off them (understand no longer available from Vauxhall)

Shoot .. t'would have been cheaper to pay Loo-Knee & Elite Pete to travel down and do it for you !! At least you'd have had a "proper job" done and not a bodge !!

And folks wonder where the "stealers" nickname came from ..  >:( >:( >:( >:(

I would report their incompetence to the SMMT.

If they are a franchised dealer, report to the manufacturer.

I previously worked for Ford as a customer rep, and I did have the authority to report to the manu regarding any shoddy servce, and based on my report and asessment, begin proceedings to remove them of their franchise.

It is a very fine line that dealers tread between having a name and not.

Anyway..... SMMT if franchised, CAB if not. Or the GGD! :y

Yeah seriously considered asking JamesV6CDX to come and do it but I am a long way from him and others. Did not want to do service as since having hip replacement and arthiritis unfortunately I am not as agile as I used to be. Suppose I am fortunate that at least I can afford to pay unlike other forum members who are out of funds at moment, but for that I want a proper job done!!

i hope you have not paid them .and when you do get them to knock hundred quid off your bill and get them to do it properly mate i would be going crazy at them !what a bunch of cowboys ! go into the main reception when there are a few customers in and start shouting.when you take your pride and joy into the main dealers you expect the work to be done to the highest standards .good luck for tomorrow wingman! :y :y

This really seems to be the way with a lot of dealers... I before joining this forum myself would have thought that your car paying a visit to a Vauxhall Dealer would come away after all the work done correctly..
But since working on a few Omegas that have visited Vx Dealers Cambelts have been a tooth out, cam covers leaking etc etc the list goes on... then to foot a bill over £500 is just mind blowing. >:(

Thanks for that Loo Knee. Will certainly bear that in mind in future should I need any assistance.
