I am sat here wondering what the world is coming too with a split lip and i think broken nose and my cheek bone is , well all i can describe as, feels loose, if the pain in my face dont ease i will be popping into casualty later, i went down to our local garage about 40 mins ago to fill the car up ready for tomorrow.
I paid for the fuel and as i was walking back to the car there were 4 lads pushing (what i now know is a Jamacian guy, 25 years old)
as they were pushing him they were calling him all sorts of racist names and throwing the odd punch at him.
Other people were coming out of the garage and walking past the trouble........sorry but i had to say something, all i said was leave the guy alone, next thing 2 of the white lads ran over, wadeing into me, i gave as good as i got and one of the lads will be in a bit of pain tonight, but as i started to fight back the other 2 lads came over and joined in, all i can say is i got a good kicking from the 4 lads, thus ending up with my injuries, the only thing that stopped the fight was another 2 blokes got involved and the 4 lads ran off with a few bruises of their own.
The Jamacian guy could not apologise enough to me and was full of thanks, all he did was jump the queue by mistake at the pumps and it took 4 dickheads to have a go at him.
I should not have got involved but i could not standby and watch this Jamacian lad suffer abuse and assult of this kind and i would do it again.
Whats happening out there i wonder >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Report it to the police. There will be CCTV evidence to back you up. Scum like this should not be allowed to get away with it. >:( >:( >:(

you did well jumping in but these days you was very lucky to only get what you did get
ive known people get knifed for this type of thing
if i was you mate i would get up a&e just to be on the safe side
hopefully the garage will have it all on cctv
let me know how you get on mate at a&e

I can see your point but i would rather let sleeping dogs lie, reporting this could lead to lots of hassle and i dont want to put Mrs Miggy and daughter miggy under any risk, I work long hours and am not always at home. The incident is over now and the Jamacian lad did not want the police involved.
-
Unfortunately thats what tends to happen when you get involved, whether racially motivated or not, anyway at least you did'nt stand by or walk past, hope your bruises heal up soon :y
-
I hope they get the m*th*rf*ck*rs :exclamation
Glad your okay, there are plenty enough walking away from this.
greetings and get well soon,
Danny

Yep, I understand. It's the old Catch-22. Report it and there may be worse to come; don't report it and let the bast*rds do it again.
I guess, with a wife and children myself, I would do the same as you and keep quiet - especially if the Jamaican chap doesn't want to know. Trouble is, it goes against my principles. :-/
-
I can sympathise with your view on involving the Police, but urge you to get along to A&E as soon as possible!!
For the injuries you are describing you must have taken a few severe blows to the head and these MUST be checked out!!!!!
-
You might not think so at the moment but you did the right thing. Thank you for helping him. As you said a lot couldn't be bothered and ignored it.
There are a lot of coppers on this site I understand - would one of them be interested in having a quiet word? :question
If in any doubt - get yourself seen to!

-
As much as i admire you for sticking up for this guy, at the end of the day it is not worth the hassle you can get for helping out, i had the same situation a few years back and nearly paid dearly and i can pretty much look after myself having kick boxed for 6 years and boxed for 7 in my youth.......
Your lucky to walk away as you hear so many horror storys these days
Sorry but this is Broken Britain and nor you or me are going to fix it

I`m so sad to read this Miggy; having principles can cost....but better-that, than live like those brutish thugs: inhabiting their self created, hellish-world, devoid of conscience, decency or morals.
..."Well done you for being humane, decent and kind" and I hope you`ll feel better really-soon! :y

Glad you are ok..
You did the right thing although came with a high cost :y :y
and believe me its better to have pain when you face moments that
you cant avoid..
Well done :y
ps: for those times keep a baseball bat under your chair

Sorry to hear what happened Pete. You probably thought that you were doing the right thing at the time but, on reflection, the situation would have turned out better if you'd got into your car and called 999.
Despite the reputation the police have for tardiness, they usually get there pretty quick in a situation such as this one. That way, there would have been a good chance that these cowards would have been nicked and if the black lad had got a thump in the mean time, well, he wouldn't queue jump again would he?
If you think there's a chance that your injuries could make you miss work, or spoil your handsome good looks, get it reported. You will be able to claim criminal injuries compensation.
Hope it's not too painful. Next time, think of your wife and kids and break all the have-a-goers, look after yourself.

My neighbours are Indian and really very nice and tolerant people...
This morning at 4am we were woken by some lads shouting and some stones hitting our little girls bedroom window...
Look out the window and they are 2 or 3 drunken lads throwing stones at one of our neighbours as hes coming down the drive on his way back from work...were not talking stone chips either but a good inch or so in size pieces...not sure if the fact some of the stones were hitting our upstairs windows means it they were particularly bad shots but thankfully a loud knock by me on our bedroom window and opening it (was just about to shout at the lads) and they backed off and went off on their way...
Shouting some racist abuse at the poor guy as they left...
There are some total a*seholes out there...

All I can say mate is good for you. It takes guts to stand up for what you believe to be right . Doubtless you didnt even think about it at the time and Im sure Im not the only one on here who has got involved in similar situations and only afterwards thought about the possible consequences. Cant blame you for not wanting to take it further in case it escalates and puts you and yours at risk but the important thing is that you didnt just walk on by and stood up against the scrotes. As others have urged though, best get yourself down to A/E and get youself checked over. Hope you recover soon. Best wishes :y

sounds like a normal day in newport to me!
nah in all fairness thats preety harsh bloody muppets you certainly didnt deserve what they done!
where abouts in newport was it bud?
-
I really hope you're ok Pete. I know exactly what you felt & the guilt would've eaten away at you for a long time. Ok you got some pain, but it will be short lived.
You did the right thing mate, you really did. Hold your head high :y :y :y :y :y :y

If it was all on the forecourt the garage assistant by law should have contacted at least his head office, who would have contacted the police anyway, any criminal offence occuring on a petrol forecourt, being it driving off without paying to causing a dangerous act (i.e smoking while filling, using phone etc) as it would bring the garage name into disrepute. In other words, if the garage has done its job, they should have reported it, basically in any fact just to clear themselves of any neglect or wrong doing. If you speak to the manager tomorrow and get the crime ref number as you are entitled to it being that you were involved, you can go from there, its the same principal for all main registered companys nowadays so I believe :y Hope your ok mate and good lad for helping out, it doesnt matter what colour, age, religious belief or car you drive, a polite word is enough to get most people where they belong, not a good kicking!
-
GOOD ON YOU LAD Very dangerous thing to do but it takes guts and youve got them. RESPECT. wish more people would act a bit more than just walk on by, get down to the docs and get well soon, :y
-
Pete - was this at the shell garage, on the Chepstow Rd?
-
That way, there would have been a good chance that these cowards would have been nicked and if the black lad had got a thump in the mean time, well, he wouldn't queue jump again would he?
So next time you post something that annoys me, i've got carte blanche to kick the shit out of you :question - game on!
P.S. Post your address to save me some time :y

You're title is wrong - you're pride is not dented , but enhanced - you did the right thing, at physical cost to yourself - you knew the risk but still stood up to defend the victim.
I hope when confronted by a similar situation, I respond as as well as you did :y

But keep a baseball with it else it could be classed as an offensive weapon :y
Personally I would still inform the police, even if it was just to record the incident and get a crime number! At least then the police will be aware of the incident and even if the 4 attackers are not prosecuted the police will know who they are for the next time they do something similar! :y

1 to 4 is not a gentlemens style.. For those times I keep a half meter iron material under my chair.. in case they are crowded its better they die instead of me.. >:( >:(
I dont care its offensive or not I have lived a very bad similiar situation and the reason I can write those words is I was lucky they dont had knifes.. >:(

NO YOU ARE WRONG it is worth the hassle
turning a blind eye and pretending its not happening isn't going to help you in the long run
one day it could be you or your family members I bet you wouldn't turn a blind eye to that and you would be angry at passers by not helping out
this sort of attack is wrong but 4 on 1 is out of order.
while i can understand peoples reluctance to stick their neck out for someone they don't know I feel i have to get involved
i am not so sure it was a racist attack the guy skipped the queue and they were pissed off about it the fact he happened to black may well be incidental

Just the sort of macho crap from both that started the whole situation.
I admire Miggy for having a go and would hope others would not just walk by if I or mine was taking a kicking BUT understand the reluctance to get into situations where you put your live at risk - in a different context it would be considered a heroic act.
-
Are you are referring to me withe the macho crap comment?
Some people have more spine than others
My conscience would kill me if i didn't step in and try to help out.
I have worked in the pubs and clubs industry for 10 years in Glasgow and surrounding areas and have had my fair share of punch ups/kick ins for defending staff from abusive punters etc
perhaps its just because Ive been doing it for so long it is almost a reflex now?
Ive had a few good kick ins from more than one person and twice from 4 people at once.
Is there something wrong with me for expecting everyone to be treated equally and with a bit of respect?
Macho crap ? perhaps it is but I wont turn a blind eye to an injustice as stated already my Conscience would bother me too much

Lads......came back from casualty at 04.00 this morning, it was packed >:(, my thoughts were correct, broken nose and badly bruised cheek bone.
The lad did not jump the queue on purpose, he pulled forward around a car that was slightly stopped to the right of the pump, he thought the guys had gone in the shop.
It was said that it was no a racist attack but it certainly turned into one, you should have heard the verbal attack on his colour.
All said, i am ok, the Jamacian lad is ok, i wont be reporting it to the police, i work away from home a lot and i will not put my family at risk or under pressure from these idiots, and it does happen.
Thanks for your concers lads and lassies

Glad you're OK Pete. I've had first hand experience of this sort of thing, and my mate's wife and four kids wish he'd not intervened, believe me.
Put it down to being in the wrong/right place at the wrong/right time (depending on your point of view).
Hope you get your film-star looks back quickly. ;)

You need to be able to distinguish between banter and arguement. I did not take offence at what Big Al said and I'm sure he isn't really going to travel 220 miles to beat me up............is he? :(

I have a lot of respect for people who can't walk by... I'm the same and have found myself in a few uncomfortable situations because I don't like to see unfair and incorrect situations. Well done for trying to be a moral, upright citizen!
That said, it's not such a good idea now days as you never know what'll happen >:( >:( >:(
My biggest question is why hadn't the staff at the garage called the police?
-
Sounds like the garage forecourt staff hid behind the counter and ignored it.....I`ve seen stuff like that happen before and to be quite honest even i`ve been told now not to intervene but just observe and report to police if neccesary..... :-[
-
I'd always call it in before making a decision whether to intervene or not - 'cos if the worst happens and you start to take a pasting yourself, help is at least on the way.
In terms of the garage staff - if they didn't at minimum call the Police - I am staggered...
-
.....Hope you get your film-star looks back quickly. ;)
;D That`ll be a longer wait than the one at casualty! ;D

I have just caught up with this thread, and I think you did a very brave and noble thing Miggy! :-* :-* :-* 8-) 8-) :y :y :y
Too many people stand back now and simply watch thugs set about others, without even calling the police!! :o :o :o So many of these thugs think that they can get away with it, and of course in so many cases they do because no-one wants to get involved. All too often IP's won't even give statements to the police for fear of reprisals. This is what is dragging our society down, and if there were more true citizens like Miggy who are prepared to "step in" and defend what is morally right we would have far less trouble in our society.
Like Lazydocker I do question why the filling station staff didn't call the local police. They had a moral duty to do so at least, if nothing else!! >:( >:( >:( >:(
