Title: BMW E39
Post by: Del Boy on 05 May 2009, 20:16:56
What do you think of these ?? Mrs. is looking at a couple as I said chop your two cars in (Scorp and sadly the Mig) and i'll give you some cash if you need it. She wants 02 reg or later so one of the last ones and she quite likes the look of the 530i SE or a 540i. Hopefully this'll stop her driving mine anyone had experiences with these, got my car and thats very nice but these are different  ;D

A friend of mine has a 528i....................1999 ...T ....reg......I'am not sure if that makes it an E39 or not.
Very nice car.................but other road users hate him............BMW's have this effect on other people.
The 540i..................is a V8...............with I think ....286 bhp......and would be much quicker than any Omega. :y :y :y :y :y

540 is bullet proof later ones are slightly better more power and have VANOS deffinalty alot faster than an omega!!!

rear bushes are very common faults

530 dont know much about these

540 definitely fast car..but if you dont own a gas station and have extra time and money to spend for costly repairs , go for 530..

528 and 540 reliability very different than 530 ..was an ex member of E39 forum ;D

BMW 5's are the only serious replacement for an Omega really.

I would love a supercharged XJ but running costs would be too high.

I personally would go for a 530d, just as quick as the petrol but 45mpg!

im on the prowl for a E39 2001+ 540I unfortunatly the car has a Minimum age of 23! so im waiting till then but thats whats on the horizon! i can get insurance on one for £2k odd but ill pass on that methinks!

Its known as the Poor mans M5 the 540 is get as late as you can buy early ones do have a problem with there Alusil engines but most should have been dealer recalled!

Leather heated seats & Navigation are the most desirable options on used ones

M5s are getting cheaper everyday too ::) ::) ::) ;)

The Tossers have ditched there bimmers now and gone to Audis so BMWs are now safe Theyre Great cars and i think theyre Motto is The Ultimate Driving Machine In ther case of the E46 M3 i think theyre right!!

Only problems are Service costs and parts are stupidly expensive not many pattern parts for the later cars ie Crank pullys so you have to face dealer parts prices!

Got an 05 E46 only a 320d but they are only any good on dry roads, anything else twichy as hell! It does drive without fault in the dry though it holds the road so well, mind you its got 255's on the back so it should.

95 RON having 1.27 £/liter price tag and very high taxes for big engines (even for old models) and ridiculous part prices even a cheap 540 is a good candidate to be a handsome metal sculpture in front of the home :'(

Saloon yeah, tourer as more weight at the rear which is better on wet days with one of these things. Myself I want an E60 or an E90 next with the 3 or 3.5 diesel maybe petrol  :) But then again I may buy a big van.

Yeah 286 BHP which to be honest is the same as the 540i's 4.4 V8, I like the idea of one, this one is going soon though (maybe in the next couple of months or maybe next year cos' I quite like it  ;D) but have some pennies saved up as well. High insurance groups though, this is a 320d but its group 14 then again it's M sport which pumps it up a bit.

The new shape 5's are really growing on me, in that dark silver/grey or black  :-*

Still out of my price range really, will keep the trusty Omega going till the 530d's of that shape with sub 100k miles are going for sub 5k

Will be the best bet, was gonna buy a 530d on a 54 plate only probs were it was green and had 196k on it and din't wanna chance it and it was still 6 grand. Mine little slower but it's not slouch 8.7 - 60mph ain't that bad. This seemed the better bet though 6 months newer and 121k less miles.

 :o :o :o

For me the 3's are too small, and don't really do it for me styling wise.

It is quite small but to be honest in the back legroom is much more impressive than I thought it would be. Still want a 5 though but they're expensive as I like M sports. She's a looker though but I am gonna say that will get up some more pics that the mrs. can take cos' i got a real shaky hand problem look:

Go for an 528 or 530, forget the 540i because you'll be driving from gas station to gas station. Probably 528 is maybe the best option.
It's powerfull enough, comes from 325 nad 525 ( they're actually the same engines with only a small difference) and they're very durable and relatively cheap to maintain
Diesel BMW's are way worse than petrol, but if its low mileaage car you can alslo look into this.

Well they are smooth and quick, not sure if they require the same 3k oil changes like the older units.

I do like that 535d posted up though  :-*

Mine says 18107 Inspection at the moment. Had literally just had a service when I got it must've been 18500 as it was 18470 when I got it 2 days after the service.
