Our usual driver's on his jollie's for two weeks & so i was asked to deliver two air winches in Doncaster today.
This is the first time i've driven the works truck any distance. What a pile of crap, the gearbox isn't smooth, it just grates into gear (like it's swallowed a load of sand) & it also makes a god awful sound at 50mph plus. It's not very powerful, even when empty. It's very noisy in the cab too. This is a new 57 plate with only 47,000 on the clock too :o :o
To be totally honest there isn't a thing i like about it (apart from it has A/C & cruise).
If this is the best the Germans can come up with, then they should be ashamed :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
In the past, i've driven all manner of trucks & this has to be the worst :( :( :( :(

weve got a 06 atego recovery truck here and i get the worst pais in my legs from clutchin it.so heavy!! ;)

I flatly refused to drive the mercs at halfrauds!! they were so uncomfortable to drive it was unreal, both actros and axtor awful things!!! very nervous and twitchy on the road and in the wet forget it!!! :y

can't say from my own experience, but what i hear from professional drivers its a close call between volvo/scania

they are good but my persoanl preference is Daf done a million k in one of mine on the transporters and only fault was a uj going on the front of the prop, of course the two best trucks i ever had were a trancontinental 428 and a scania 141, both unlimited of course and nothing to touch them uphill real hotrods of the truck world!! had asoft spot for me old scammel crusader with the eagle diesel in it too!!!!

yea scania good work horse and nice to work on if/when they go wrong :y

My personal favorite was the Bedford TM ..................
The one with the Detroit Diesel and there werent many made but what a sound and the speed
For you youngsters it had a 2 stroke diesel lump and you could throw flames out of the stack

Yep and take your mirrors off if you were part of a convoy..........AKA woosha trucks because of the noise they made

they were a good truck until they teamed up with iveco :o iveco not to good a truck :D

Im talking coaches here but along the same lines....
DAF all day long....Volvo's are good providing it isn't an i-shift gearbox,seriously lets them down....
Best coach i had was a DAF SB4000 rear engine with a fully auto ZF box, 62mph uphill or down dale all day long full or empty......
It was a 04 plate with Vanhool body and its only downside was the dustbin lid sized steering wheel!! ;D

that daf box is a good box but on our trucks the box let water in and rusted the in sides had to have a recon box to put on . the truck is a XF 55 plate / 2 head gaskets and 1 snapped head bolt >:( happy days :y

As a profi European long distance driver ( 40 ton Artic ) I can say the best trucks what ive driven is the MAN, Ive had a F2000 and a 460 tga xxL very good and comfi for long distance work, The benz is Cr** Stars belong in the sky and not on the road, Scania & Volvo are ok and DAF is just a dutch tortcher chamber, The old east german trucks are fun to drive the L60 goes like a rocket and the W50 dies when it sees a hill.

seen a mackworth last year as a recovery truck owned by dragon rescue . now thats a big truck :o :o :y
