Title: This Credit Crunch - Am I imagining it all ?
Post by: SJKOO01 on 07 May 2009, 22:05:30
Is it actually happening, or am I going mad finally ?!  :o .

Since the Credit Crunch has started, and there's all this talk about everyone helping each other in this time of need. Government, etc, so why does it seam to me that everything seams to be going 'up' in price, and everyone is using 'the credit crunch' as an excuse to bump up the price, as there are overheads ?!.

Am I wrong in thinking that not every place going down the pan is due to the crunch, but actually due to bad management ?.

I feel that some prices are being put up artificially.

Am I the only one thinking on these lines ?.

(don't worry, I'm bracing myself for the "yes you've gone mad" responses already  ::)

Jacket with extra long arms then !!!!!   :P

For reasons too numerous to list, the UK makes very little from scratch these days, stuff is either imported to be assembled, or the raw materials are imported. Even vast amounts of food are imported.

Due to the amount this "government" has decided to "borrow" the value of the pound against other currencies was at all time lows until the last week. The effect of this is to drive up the price of all imported goods, some by as much as 20%. This has to be passed on to consumers by most manufaturers, or they will make even bigger losses than they have in the past.

1. stop buying petrol... and persuade the rest of the country to follow you ...:)

2. Oil price in dollars:

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20090507/tbs-oil-prices-bounce-above-58-dollars-p-5268574.html

dollar to pound

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=476289&in_page_id=2

so oil costs a lot more in terms of pounds. Simple really, but that is "real world" ... not the headlines the papers like that simply accuse the petrol companies of "unfair profits" .. nice headline, rubbish facts.

As someone far cleverer than I once said ....  "Why let the truth spoil a good rumour"

Yep, stupidly low interest rates and massive borrowing means a weak pound....that results in higher prices to you and me.
