As a Mozilla/Firefox user out of preference, I notice that more and more avatars are a little too wide and encroach onto the text area, making reading difficult, as the auto-resize only works in IE (or so I believe).
Last time I pointed this out to a member I was accused of "bossiness" and "wanna-be admin", so I have said nothing since. But the "problem" continues to grow, simply I expect, because folks just don't know.
The question is, how would the moderating staff like this minor but annoying problem dealt with ?? ... A polite note to the member as I tried, ..... do you wish to be told every time so only you sort the problem (so increasing your workload) ... or is "sod it use IE" the prevailing view .. ???

Download and install Adblock Plus
http://adblockplus.org/en/installation
then just right click on whichever avatar is annoying you and block it.
I agree it's not nice to newbies to tell them off when they don't know there is a problem as IE works fine, not very welcoming. (put yourself in their shoes, even though its against the rules its not very welcoming)
If you go down this route, let me know, I can supply an uptodate blocklist so you will only need to block new ones that annoy you.

All admin staff use IE, which doesn't suffer the problem, as the browser isn't as stupid as that buggy, flawed piece of shite you use :-X
We are aware that some deranged souls have it in their head that FF is somehow better/more secure, as they are daft enough to believe the hype :-X, so we do PM members as an when we see them - but as we aren't so daft as to use FF, we may miss some of the more borderline cases...

Some of the members have over 400 posts .... hardly "newbies" :(
The adblock/use IE approach just hides the problem .. doesn't solve it, but I'll get back in me box ( with a nice, clean, functional browser that looks and works the way I like it, not a Bill Gates "do as I say" piece of junk .. :) )
:)

piss taking aside, we cannot be non stop moaning at members about rules. look at the discontent over our recent 'text speak' clampdown
-
I now log on frequently via my mobile when I am out and about and see completely what you mean. It can be tiresome....
Doing admin and PM type things when on the mobile I find too tedious so leave it till later when I'm home. I do disable the worst when I see them and put a tagline beneath their username so that they get the hint.
We will get there eventually..... ;)

Absolutely right Entwood! :y :y :y
Just had another rude response (Ref: "General Chat; You Tube Oh Dear") from my "friend" Ruud, the member who doesn't like advise from a women, over pointing out his avatar is over sized. ::) ::) ::) ::)
Such pig headiness makes you wonder why we bother. And yes, I have just blocked his avatar! 8-) 8-)

I use FF at home and IE at work - yesterday night had trouble reading some of the posts at home; was half sleep to investigate and ended up not reading those posts.
Glad I don't have an avtaar.. :)

And yes I have changed my name but that has absolutely nothing to do with you or anyone else for that matter ;)

With the greatest respect to both of you .. please take your fight to PM or elsewhere.
This is a friendly forum and I would not like it to go the way of other forums due to public bickering and squabbling, which once started everyone seems to join in and it eventually destroys the ambivalence of the site.
Just my views, nowt else.

No Entwood, you are absolutely right and I will not respond further than my last "signing off" statement. Life is all too short and I have better things to do than try and help people who don't like my advise! :y :y

so much for ignoring me ;D
