Title: Anyone going to France...
Post by: Nickbat on 13 May 2009, 12:28:49
...will pay a lot less for food and booze:

"The French government is offering some good news for tourists and beleaguered consumers in France: The price of dining out is expected to go down soon.

The value-added tax, which is applied on a range of items in restaurants, will be reduced to 5.5 percent from 19.6 percent, beginning July 1, the office of President Nicolas Sarkozy said last week."
 :y

I understand that includes both food and drink in bars and restaurants.

Any chance of that happening here?

Sorry, I meant to type "No chance of that happening here"  :(

This summer could see problems for France, Spain, Italy etc. As I am sure numerous people like myself will not be holidaying this year. A work colleague has just returned from Spain and he was saying how expensive everything seems.

Am I holidaying in the UK, no I am not. For this first time since about 1982 I will not be taking a main summer holiday, and I am in a fairly safe job.

That's no good. She's on the verge of banning me from the Black stuff anyway, due to some side-effects apparently. ::)

my parents have just come back from  spain  at w/end ,and they both said how exspensive it has got in last year, brandy and coke was 4.5 euros in hotel ....ouch. But then its nothing new  when i used to drive out there in mid to late 80's we were getting 6.5 ffs to the pound,so its nothing new with the pound /euro being crap.Heard it was going up a little bit the exchange rate
