Title: sky kerfuffle revisited ...............
Post by: sir moanalot on 18 May 2009, 12:51:46
my missus got overcharged on her sky account for 4 months so lost her rag with it all and told them to cancel all.
after being cut off and later left on hold for ages she got a numpty begging her to stay and offering any amount of money. she never received the promised amount so then went back to them with the repeat cancellation request. this time they tried blackmail stating that with an inactive sky account it may be harder to get whats owed to her and again was offered incentives to stay, they refused to cancel the account and run on about why she insisted on leaving such a good service!! she then hung up and cancelled the dd and contacted ofcom/oftel and watchdog lets see how it all pans out eh !!  >:(

I feel your pain, I've been there myself.

Shouting/screaming/pleading....none of that works with those numpties because they simply hang up.

Heres what worked for me in the end....

Call the retentions department who are based in Livingstone, West Lothian.
In a cool, calm, collected voice, get the full name of the person you are speaking to, ascertain where they are based, then state the following.....

"I have been given the run around/cut off/transferred to the wrong department, etc no less than X times. If you hang up on me again, I will get in my car, drive to your office, and I won't be in a very talkative mood when I get there. Am I making myself clear?"

Say something along those lines in a cool, calm manner as opposed to ranting (which they have brought on anyway), and you'll find it makes them a lot more wary of upsetting you further ;)
