about cars. I do that a lot lately....less about sex.....more about cars...mmmm
Anyway, just thinking...why is it that a lot of the cars that I absolutely love, others most definately do not.
Omegas---you can pick them up for a song
Rover 600 series(esp 623 GSI)---next to nothing
Legend 3.5V6---beautiful car for the prices these days
MGZT(esp190+)----decent '03 for five grand
Is it just me or are these great cars?

Alas, thats because it will need a new head gasket next week... :(
-
....and then again a week later....and the week after that.......
-
Wot? Like my wifes...96K and never had to spend a penny on it?
-
Was it the KV6 engine? Or the almost as bad 1.8 K
-
If we are going to start comparing 2.5V6's, I dont think my omega has a single advantage over her ZT( maybe mpg)
-
Don't get me wrong - I have owned and liked many Rovers. Still got a 25. But the 2.5 KV6 engine is renown for blowing head gaskets regularly. Same engine also used in Landrover vehicles, but Landrover were more responsible and absorbed the cost of premature failure (even if out of warranty) in most cases, unlike Rover who wouldn't (and certainly won't now).
Not sure if who owns Powertrain (the makers of the engine, set up when BMW sold it all off), but I thought it was Rover. If that is the case, odd that Landrover were prepared to pass the warranty claim back, but Rover weren't....

I would't mind that MG ZT 280?? The one which they shoe horned an american V8 lump...
saw them on '04 plates for between 8-10k :o

Shame Rover didn't do that car earlier - it may have helped get rid of the dowdy image that the 75 had :(
-
Certain cars, for some reason, get a bad reputation. Omegas have the...'too many sensors'..'underpowered for the weight'.. 'old mans car' etc. but we love 'em. All I can say is that I have two friends with ZT's as well as the wife(not a friend) and none have had any trouble. I try not to go by reputation and try to make up my own mind.

Mrs TheBoy used to work in warranty at Rover, hence I know the reliability of various models/engines etc...

Touche

...anyway, we went off track there. What about the other cars?
-
not a fan of the Rover 600 personally.... i can't really pass judgment as i have never driven on. I just can't stand its looks or the interior!
Like to find out how a Legend is to drive though...
-
a rover 75 with a V8 lump!! :o
Should have had that when it first launched.
-
Dunno about the legend, but the honda engine 623 wasn't too bad. Lacked suspension travel at front though, which compromised handling slightly. Thirsty as well. But still a pleasant drive...

Rover 623. Horrid!
Same wallowy suspension as in the 400 series. When mated to an engine with a bit of poke you and up with scary handling!
Used to have too much body roll, would understeer far too easily and had brakes best described as "wooly" :o
Interior was typical Rover. Plastic and wood coloured plastic. Seats were uncomfortable and everything just felt flimsy.
Alas I drove 2 of them on a regular basis when they were less than a year old. Would not like to drive one now!
Not driven the ZT. I have extensively driven the ZS though, in 120 & 180 guises.
Both much better than I expected. ZS180 is rather good fun and handles very well, but engine sounds a bit harsh when you rev it, which you need to do to keep the power on tap.
Honda Legend....hmmm
I have a friend who has just sold his 3.5 V6... and has bought a 3.0 X type. :)
It was a very nice car. Very comfortable, quiet, powerful and smooth with lots and lots of toys.
However, the suspension wallows far too much and talk about thirsty! It averaged 21mpg!
He was thinking of a late elite but then got his boss' old company car at a fabulous price.

Omegas we are all in agreement
Rover 600 fantastic cars for the money - even cheaper than omegas great spec and HONDA engined - v plated good spec under £1000
Legend - well its a Honda
MGZT great money for a good car - less Rover than you think and after 2001 hgf should not be an issue
