Title: bt email adress
Post by: Vamps on 09 June 2009, 21:25:38
Anyone got an address for them, not a link. I have received an email which I believe is fake and want to forward it on.

No, it is all links. I have an email which seems to suggest they want my card details again. Checked through my link and all bills fully paid. Wanted to send it on to be because it is identical :o only suspect was me knowing I had paid my bill and it having an address that is not   @bt.com. and I have not changed any details / moved etc. If it is real then fair do but they can ring me to confirm any problem. :y

Not having an @bt.com mail addy disdplaying from the sender was a schoolboy error, mainly because spoofing an e-mail is so easy that a pre-school child could do it.

As far as verifying the authenticity, the headers will tell you all you need to know.

Just for future reference, no reputable company will ever ask for card details, pin numbers, passwords, etc in an e-mail.

By answering them, you confirm the existence of a live mail addy.

"Spamming" is the sending of unsolicitied messages.

If you have to put them in the spam box yourself, your anti-spam software obviously isn't doing it's job.

As for ditching it, thats exactly the right thing to do...although I'd delete it full stop if it managed to get through in the first place.

Postmaster@bt.com might work if you can't find a dedicated phishing address on the BT site.

Certainly don't reply to it.

I don't know what anti-spam software you have but they usually need to be 'told' that you regard something as spam (thunderbird has a column to click that allows spamassassin to learn your preferences).  Having said that, what you have may not be recognisable as spam as it may not have the characteristics.

Some unwanted junk will always get through as the spammers change their techniques day by day to defeat protection software so deleting is something that you need to get used to I'm afraid.
