Title: Good job the Micks

Just got back from watching Trooping the colour by St James' and I must say the Micks (Irish Guards) were spot on.  Very good snappy movements, very sharp and their timing was excellent.  I had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up all the way through, well done lads  :y

From what was said there were 300 Irish Guards on parade, 80% have never done puplic duties ( Ceremonial Duties ) before, they were only about 2 months out of Basic Training. So Good for them lads.
Its a hard parade to do, I Know Ive done it twice with the Scots Guards. ( a long time ago ).

Yes when you see such a spectacle, the only one of its type in the world, it makes you so proud to be British. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

It reminds you that with all our political woes we have still so much to rejoice about. For me especially the fact we have a monarchy that is central to the whole British tradition which is unique, representing tremendous achievements, is one to stand up and be proud of. 8-) 8-) 8-)

The Irish Guards did a fantastic job yesterday, and what was so reassuring was the fact that these are no 'chocolate' ceremonial only, soldiers.  These, and the rest of the British army, is once more a very operational unit being maintained continually to modern battle requirements. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

We can be proud of our military! :y :y :y :y :y :y

I actually use quite a few old military tunes for dance (marches, jigs [quick marches] hornpipes) so if I can I watch ceremonies like this to pick out new ones.
Examples would be Brighton Camp or Rogues March

The Trooping the coulor is believe it or not a punishment. it was given to the guards by some queen about 150 years ago and is to last 500 years.
Now its tradition so not many people know that.
Because of the troop a lot of people think of the guards as chocolate soldiers ( as lizze pointed out and went on to say ) But fact is the Guards are one of the first that go into battle and are one of the strongest and hardest fighting force of the world.
Most regiments have 6 / 8 weeks basic training, the guards have 6 months.
