Has anyone purchased or used one of the Tech 2 interface modules that are advertised on ebay.

(your link doesnt work, 3 x http://'s doesnt help)

Ive got one, as have several people on here.

They are OK is the answer

Software is buggy and 1/2 hungarian!
need a reasonably powered laptop with a real COM port, they dont like adaptors
They can read and reset faults, including airbag
Seem intermittant on which cars and systems they work with.

Consensus is if they reset 1 fault for you, it has paid for itself.

To help searching, look for 'cheapo tech 2' or 'poor mans tech 2'

This is something I am still working on myself....

I have now created most of the error code files in english (the software defaults to hungarian if it cant find the english error code files) and I am slowly (when time permits) editing the Opeldata file to add the new fault lists in......

Then its a case of filling in the blanks for baud etc and its should be much improved.....

Mmmmm

I gather it is still a work in progress.....but fancy sharing it out?, I'm sure a lot of us would benefit from your hard work.

Its on my home PC so will need to wait until this eveing.

I have edited a few files, details are:

Main ECU file now only covers OMEGAB (you get no other options as it makes it easier for me to work on).
When you select English the main screen says Vauxhall and not Opel so you now know the language setting is correct.
I have created most of the ECU files.
Currently only worked on 1998....one step at a time.

To do, test it and debug as required, check pin numbers are correct, finish writing the fault codes files...

So its not realy ready to go yet.....

The majority of the 98 stuff will cut and paste into the other years, I would need to add some engine varients etc to.

I think they are great! I used one on mine and it told me that the Goulash was gangle pinned to the waffle iron. That will be 40,000 rubettes please. front row, after kenn Dodd.

Nothing wrong with them ::)

The fact that it resets my airbag light has more than paid for itself for me.

Saves me having to fork out stupid dealer prices.

.....and it also saves me from making a nuisance of myself with TheBoy.

As I've said loads of times, if you have a reasonable spec laptop with a real COM1 port, then at £30 - £40 you can't go wrong. Obviously it cannot do as much as more expensive stuff, but thats understandable.  The software is utter rubbish, but mostly usable.

Don't think so

www.gendan.co.uk  does some software that supports the ELM327 see  site for which

models it covers

Might need VauxCheck

No --- IT DOES NOT WORK WITH OPEL TECH 2 etc

No they dont.....which is actualy a bonus as they ELM does not support access to all the sub functions on the car (its engine only)

Basicaly the Omega (and many other Vx's of this era) use four seperate diag pins and hence why you need the K line multiplexer...

The cheap tech2 has a MAX323 (or generic equivalent) plus a few interface devcies and a counter....

The only benfit an ELM chip actualy offers is it takes care of the real time handshaking and interfacing which simplifies the PC software.....this great benefit is also its biggest limitation...

In reality the cheap tech2 has the ability to offer considerably greater functionality.
