Title: Where to buy blank CD/DVD
Post by: TheBoy on 16 June 2009, 21:55:22
Seeing as my old favourite, SVP, have gone out of their way to ensure they are on my self-abusers-outfit list, does anyone have any other suppliers that can provide genuine quality media at good prices...

Uncompetitive prices, and ridiculous postage costs. Makes Amazon seem cheap

They are already on the self-abusers-outfit list for selling substandard stuff, then making it hard to resolve.

Well based on your earlier statement of it taking you ten million years to get through what I can do in 2 weeks, give me a clue as to what you want (+R, -R, or DL) and I'll quite happily flog you a tub or two.

But mostly I was after what other people use, if people know of independents outside of the SVP/UKDVDR/Bigpockets company.  ie, what SVP used to be before they sold out.

Currently, and bizarrely, Amazon seem to be cheapest, delivered :o

there is still an awful lot of fake media about, hence tend to avoid computer fairs.

G4 is a dye. That most definately does NOT make all G4 based disks the same. There were good ones, and there were also some abysmally bad ones.

When SVP was owned and run by Steve I told them that I would not order if delivered by City Link  >:(  So they used Parcel Force  :)  I know lots of people have had probs with PF -- but nowhere near as bad as CL -- and PF has not let me down (yet).

Since I moved to Brackley, I have no complaints about Shitty Link, except the local depot to pick stuff up is 130m round trip (Kidderminster).

My issue with SVP is a once great company has well and truely gone down the crapper since selling out to those scumbags.  Just trying to get hold of the tossers.  The number they register with the courier is invalid, they have no phone number on there site, there fax is permenently engaged (had it on automated redial for around 3 days now), they do no respond to messages with an hurry, and when they do, they are like politians and don't deal with the query, AND THEY KEEP EFFING UP THE DELIVERY  >:(

And didn't they think to test their new website before launching? Idiots.

Round here, PF are convenient (local depot about 1m from my work), but usually queuing for 30mins. Seem less flexible than other couriers.

By far the worse were Amtrak, good riddance, followed by DPD and HDN.

I think with many of these couriers, particularly the franchised ones, its postcode lottery

And you think it's just SVP that have sold themselves to the cheapest bidder?

Anyway, you led me to believe you are sorted for blank media.
Is that so, or do you still want a couple of tubs of the decent shit that can be read by ANYTHING?

Look back at the IT world...every company that was ever decent sold out.
Your first warning was when "Tech Support" changed their number to 0870, and the phone was answered by a goat herder.

It seems to be a rollercoaster that we just can't stop, but we bloody well need to.

Yup. Even Sun Microsystems have offshored certainly the 1st line of their tech support to Eastern Europe.  Fortunately, once you've jumped through their hoops, you end up with the (mostly) clever peeps in Surrey

There are a few good guys left out there, Microsoft deserve a special mention in that respect, but I'm keeping some of the smaller ones to myself (as as soon as they grow beyond a certain size.... :().  Dell have improved a bit lately, don't have too many dealings with them now, but I was pleasantly surprised the last couple of times :o

Zen Internet, they publish their geographic and 'local rate' 087 number, quickly answered by someone clever enough to help, and with enough authority to log on to systems to see why my router is returning a load of corrupted garbage to them :)

Almost the same with my "beloved" ;) Be/O2.

Freephone number only, answered in under 30 seconds every time, by someone in the UK, who knows what they are talking about.

I'm sure they'll follow the same suit as all the others eventually, although that will only become a problem for me if I have to actually call them for an issue.
