Tunnie - this is a nice comfy upright bike, very big and perfect for me if I'm honest!

Thanks aswell, it is a bloody awesome bike!  Just done my first 70 miles on it, and oh my god, what a machine!!!

Have to fit new brake pads on the rear tomorrow morning, and book it in for some new rubber, as they are squared off a bit and was advised to by the bikers I was out with tonight!  They were extremely impressed though, for a 12 year old bike, 11k Genuine miles, and its just like showroom condition (except for a few tiny bits of paintwork).  There is *no* play at all in the throttle, the suspension is just like new, bearings are all spot on, needless to say they were quite taken back.  I know £1400 sounds expensive, and I initially thought it was, but they all said they would happily pay a good 500 more for this bike, so I certainly did get a steal!

Lizzie - only have the one miggy now!  Sold the Estate on Monday, and I do miss it :(

Good all round bike that Paul :y

What an engine, out of the old 1100 slingshot, also Stunt Riders still use these bikes.

Just take your time :)

I've not ridden a bike since I smashed my RD350LC into a wall. I walked away with minor scratches, but the bike was totalled.

But I have to say I like that alot.

Bandit's are cheap to repair when they go up the road.....no plastics you see  ;)

I rode a 1200 Bandit a couple of years ago, the performance didn't impress me that much to be honest...especially when I rode my mate's son's 600 RR afterwards.

Take it easy fella.

Stepping up from a 125 to a 1200 is a big jump, so no throwing yourself down the road ok?

Those Bandit 12's have tons of torque and you'll have some fun on her, but get used to the speed first.

FFS, I sound like my Dad hehe. ;D

Well I'm doing some miles on it now, going quite well :) Although I seem to average about 25mpg, and thats not even pushing it  :o

Tis fun though, thoroughly enjoying it!  Was up at the Carousel in Southport earlier, had a ride along the A6 from Swinton to get there, then came back via the A59? then the B-something to Kirkby, round the houses a bit...  All good :)

Sounds about right for the model you have.

A few simple (exhaust & airbox) mods can easily see your engine making an extra 30 BHP....go on, you know theres no such thing as something being fast enough  ;)

Well all I know so far, its been jetted, has an uprated exhaust, air filters, and is now dyno'd at 120bhp...  I don't want any more power just yet  :D

Personally I think that MPG is wrong Paul, unless you have worked it out wrongly.
I filled my bike with £14 of petrol when it was £1.03 per litre, did 173 miles then the light came on. Mine is a 1000 (fizzer) :-? That was with my Mrs on the back so didn't go daft. The worst I have done is 120 miles from fill up, when the light came on but even that would work out better than what your getting :o
Title: Re: Bikers in here - just got my first proper big bike
Post by: PaulW on 25 June 2009, 18:15:13
Well I brimmed it, did 89 miles (by which point it was bottom end of red) brimmed it again, it took £23 (£1.09 a litre)...

Although I noticed since running that last tank of Vpower (the £1.09 a litre fill) the fuel consumption has improved, I've done 62 miles and its about 2/3 full still according to the gauge!  Unless I've just got used to how the bike powers along maybe, so riding more suited to it...

Still, off the road now till either Saturday or Monday, chain and sprockets need doing so waiting on the sprockets...

Fraid so, the best anyone has ever reported out of the old 1200 S Bandit is 30mpg...it's nothing more than a (very) detuned GSX-R 1100.

Add to that the OP's bike has apparently been tuned to accomodate a new pipe and a new airbox arrangement (although that airbox looks very standard to me)...and 25mpg is quite reasonable.
The newer 1250 is better at 40mpg,

25mpg is appalling.  My 955 chucks out 110bhp and does 45mpg worst-case.  A tankfull is typically £19 at present and I'm on 230 miles with the light just on so should get 250+ before another £19 goes in!

Aye I'm thinking of getting it setup again when I can afford, no idea how or what to do with the carbs on a bike, so would rather get it setup on a dyno again as then I know exactly whats going on with it :)
