My laptop is giving me grief. It's an Acer Aspire had it 18 months. The main problem is keeps freezing or saying internet page cannot be found when I'm browsing the net. A reboot gets it back but only lasts a few minutes then freezes up again. I'm using it on a wireless connection but it makes no difference because it still won't stay connected if I plug into the modem direct.
I am getting an internet connection, done all the checks (with another PC) check my firewall and anti-virus it's definately not the problem........it is defo the laptop problem, but what? Get the same probs with Firefox and Internet Explorer. Could it be a driver problem? Maybe a bug somewhere, I've done a virus check........I run AVG and Zonealarm which I have uninstalled then reinstalled but no luck.

Is it possibly overheating? -can you expose the cpu fan/heatsink and give it a good blow job? :D
Other than that--
I believe there is a piece of software in the o/s that shows you what processes are running and what cpu time they are using up-maybe something is being greedy?

xp or vista ?
It's Vista Premium.
Have been told, by some tech guys (sought of secondhand info) that there are problems like this with Vista. Everything else works fine, I've cleaned out any dust etc from around the vents etc.......it's just this internet freezing, I don't understand why.........was also told maybe something to do with the MAC address needs renewing.....anyone know about that?

are you running a registry cleaner ?
if not try and download TweakNow RegCleaner and run it :y
also delete all your internet temp files :y

download tuneup utilities 2009 it will sweep your system and fix any issues.
also check for spyware.
spybot search and destroy and adaware will sort the spyware issue out (if there is one)

agreed.. it seems like an hardware problem..
probably not cooling the cpu enough or something worse :-/

Weirdly my web-book occasionally behaves the same way and the only thing I have in common with you is that I am also using AVG...........

As someone cursed with doing this kind of support for a living without a specific error message or being in front of the machine any kind of diagnosis is tenuous at best.
What I tell people is go through the DVD's/manuals you got with the machine and look for a restore DVD, then back up all your piccies, files, programs, porn etc ;) and run a complete reinstall. Then see how it goes, if the problem remains it's probably hardware related.

I had to stop myself yesterday from getting the hammer to it, good idea though running the miggy over it.

Mac adresses NEVER get renewed they probably mean IP adress But this "wont"be your problem but if you wish to on vista type in "cmd"in the search bar (start / search) when its found double click it ....a black box will appear type "ipconfig /release" this will release your ip adress ..then type "ipconfig /renew"...this will renew it

I've been having the same problem with my desktop but only during this hot spell so took the side off and trained a nine inch fan onto it which drops the temp. from 39c to 32c and behaves itself now :).
Try running SPEEDFAN and see what your core temp. is.
