Shocking!
poor dogs :'(
they should REALLY know better
should be sacked and prosecuted, and made to pay for the training of replacements >:( why should the taxpayer pick up the tab for their stupidity
-
the person concerned should be sacked and taken to court,
watch for the cover up and ,a spokeperson saying lessons have been learned and action taken, if it had been a member of the public, court and banned from owning dogs
i have a german shepard keepng him cool is no1 at moment
so angry >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( :'( :'(

Which is why I said nothing in my post --- if I expressed my thoughts in open forum I would be banned !!!!!
The handler should be spit roasted >:( >:( >:(-- those poor animals :'( :'( :'( :'(

This is just appalling!! How could anyone who loves pets, and especially a (so-called) professional dog handler let this happen???? >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Time will tell on that Lizzie.
I think these handlers are very attached to their partners and this one won't be in the happiest state of mind right now. :(
-
As we don't know why or what happened ... isn't it a tad early to be demanding hanging ???
I can see several scenarios that "might" explain it .. a simple one being 2 handlers who both thought the other was letting the dogs out ??? .. NOT an excuse .. but a reason ... people make mistakes, unfortunately ....
I just hope everyone demanding immediate retribution has never, ever made a single mistake in their life......
-
I don't pretend to know anything concrete because I absolutely do not - however,
I wonder if there's some sort of explanation, such as a failure of an auxiliary aircon system, or simelar...
If the handler did indeed leave them in a locked car with no ventilation, then I agree it's disgusting - but, I agree with Entwood - let's await facts before lynching anyone....
Either way, it's absolutely heartbreaking for any animal to die in this way, especially a dog who would relate so well to his owners... :'(

Hundreds ---- and, where retribution was due, paid the consequences. However, none (admittedly that I know of) that cost two lives or caused what must have been a lot of suffering.
And "immediate retribution" wasn't in mind, but a fair and honest review of the circumstances with relevant repercussions, should they be deemed applicable.

These were working police dogs cem. They would have been in a purpose-built vehicle under normal circumstances.
-
C O C K is just another word for, well you know ::)
I don't even walk my Rotty whilst it's like this. It's far too hot for them & all they wana do is relax, that's all they'd be doing in the wild.
NOTHING will come of the incident, rule for one & not the other >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Apparently not .. :(
A police officer could be prosecuted after two dogs died when they were left in a car, it has emerged.
The RSPCA can prosecute the officer if it believes he or she broke the law by leaving the two German Shepherds in the baking car.
The animals died after being left in the car park of Nottinghamshire Police headquarters when the officer went inside.
The dogs were found dead in a private car belonging to their handler, which was parked just yards from a new set of kennels at the force's HQ.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090702/tuk-dog-deaths-officer-may-be-charged-6323e80.html
So let the RSPCA investigate .. and if guilty .. THEN prosecute and punish.

Absolutely disgusted by this
How DARE they preach to us about the obvious when they cant even do it themselves.......????
The idiot responsible should be punished in exactly the same way as a member of the public would have been if they had murdered 2 dogs.......
Bloody arrogant Notts Police......

Interesting that you can call every single copper in Nottinghamshire Constabulary "arrogant" because ONE of their number made a mistake ???
I find some of the self-righteous comments being made here more than a little arrogant themselves.
I'm really impressed that so many OOF'ers are such paragons of virtue that they have never ever made a mistake..... or do I detect some pretty severe hypocrisy going on.

Where have any posters claimed never to have made a mistake, pray?
Yes, we ALL make mistakes, and, generally, suffer the consequences.
oh, sod it ....
-
personally, made millions of mistakes..
but never ever will forget an animal inside a burning hell..even an insect..
just try to stay half an hour inside a car parked under the sun with the windows closed.. you will feel it..

Well Entwood, you obviously have far more experience of Notts Police than I do, being all the way down there in Wiltshire, so maybe you can tell us all exactly what they are like then........????
I have had 2 experiences, where, as a totally innocent party, I have been threatened by them.
Your experiences........??
>:(
-
And yes I am sure we all have made mistakes.....but I have never mistakenly killed 2 dogs.....
And as for hypocrisy.....grow up please!!!
:y
-
to tell my experience ( a really bad one) .. some years ago when I was 34, I had to travel in a car with -six- persons to south east border for some specific reason..(in terror area)..
car without any cooling system, 4 hrs of travel under the sun and it was 47 celcius in shadow , when you open the windows a flaming wind comes in burning our eyes.. so windows definitely close.. :(
really hard to put in words. we stopped several times..
but its worse than torture.. :(

Admin -- can we lock this one please -- I can see it going downhill fast and apologise for posting in the first place.

Its cool, leave it on.

Unfortunately it appears you do not have to be very bright or tall to become a Police officer nowadays, but it does help if you are a bit Diverse or Ethnic and dont mind the meagre wages... you never know the officer responsible could simply have been a Korean recruit slow cooking his dinner :P

Entwood,
My apologies for my outburst mate, I misread this post as extremely patronising, and combined with my anger at the incident, set me off........
Speaking from experience of Notts Police, they are arrogant.....

We own a German Shepard (molly) and at 13st we fully understand just how hot this breed gets in the winter let alone the Summer our dog has a filled bucket of fresh water and ice cubes alonside her normal water in the house and even with this she still gets very very hot, hence she never goes in the car during the summer month's
The police should know better to be honest and this just makes my blood boil

For once it's hard to know what to say. Without doubt the handler (or anyone with an ounce of grey matter) should know better & whilst lynching is a tad harsh he should be brought to task & maybe busted down to a kennel boy or something. Try to put yourself in his shoes, how he must be feeling, imagine if you'd made such an awful mistake in a moments lapse of concentration. My thoughts are primarily with the two Alsations.
What would really upset me further is if there is the expected closure of ranks. This should be dealt with openly, no one should be beyond reproach. :(

The Police HAVE to be arrogant and cocksure, it would be no good if they were all like Norris of Corrie now would it ? Everybody makes mistakes...
....only the inexperienced or the stupid, Bent Valve. ;)
In my own experience I have always found that officers taking such a stance were always open to some form of undesirable reaction or other.
There is a world of difference between rank stupidity and being firm and assertive, whilst tempering this with balance and fairness :y

If the public lose confidence in the police, for whatever reason - but especially where there is a question of doubtful conduct, there will a rapid deterioration in the ability of the police to handle even the simplest situation. ;) ;)
-
Unfortunately, many people, including Police Constables and those that assess and advise them, as well as the general Public seem to confuse the terms
assertive / confident / arrogant ...
so to the police and those in charge .. the arrogance is seen as confidence/assertiveness
and to the public ... the confidence/ assertiveness is seen as arrogance
Is there an easy answer ?? I doubt it.
We require the police to be confident/assertive and pugnacious when dealing with those we see as being lawbreakers ...
but when then deal with "me" they have to instantly realise that I'm actually a "good guy" and the one who pays their wages, so they should back off and show both respect and restraint.
Just how does anyone square that circle ???

....it never can be, Entwood ;)
In unsophisticated terms, the public get the police service they deserve and the police are treated in a manner, which they themselves deserve, based on their interaction with the public.
It's all about common consent but all too often the police lay themselves open to unnecessary difficulty as a result of their inappropriate behaviour - for whatever reason that behaviour is displayed.
In my own force that had all too often fatal consequences.
-
It says in the report that he was off duty at the time and was just visiting the Station, so it's probably lucky that if he's gots kids he didn't take them with him!!! >:( >:( >:(.
