When you think about the fact that this lot have been caught fiddling small fortunes on expenses, now they are trying to claw back a few quid from soldiers who THEY sent to war. >:( >:( >:(

Don't want to start an argument.
And if these injuries are genuine, then I support them all the way.
But, I have an ex soldier down the road from who says his injuries stop him from working, (scar on his back 1 inch long)so he has to live on benefits. Now when a cash job comes his way from the cowboy builder a few streets away he can work a shovel like the best navvy can.
So apologise for being cynical, but there are good and bad in all walks of life.
Oh yes should add, this ex soldier down the road never saw any combat anywhere.

The ones reported by Albs in the first post are a totally different kettle of fish to the one mantahatch talks about. Surely each case should be judged on its merits.

...important point STMO, there is a world of difference between the two but sadly such individuals as in manta's example do exist and they bring discredit those who serve with honour :y

A very, very sad fact, but an inescapable one :(

I would say we should concentrate on the vast majority who are fighting very bravely on our behalf and are very honourable, not just a minority as there always are in life who are rogues!! >:(

Therefore, in the cases being highlighted by the Government's appeals on two High Court cases of brave men who are now very 'damaged' I must say it is absolutely disgusting how they are being treated!! >:( >:( >:( >:(

Why should any young person join our services, go into battle for Queen, Country and Government and not be fully recompensed and looked after over the full effects of their injury???? :o :o :o :o   After the intitial wounding these injuries can develop into something far worse, but as rules stand the bloody Government is insisting the compensation should only cover the initial injury!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

As a daughter of a naval family, and also having had a son serving the colours in the Royal Engineers I am absolutely fuming over this!

Then for some to immediately focus on those that may abuse the system and not the real issue................sorry I am speechless!! >:( >:( >:( >:(

God help all military service personnel, the country is lucky to have you!! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Rant over for now!!

I think Simon Weston made a very good point on the radio this morning. Other people have dangerous occupations - Police, Firemen, etc. They have unions to represent them and properly structured support, financial and otherwise, for those who are injured or worse.

It seems in the case of those injured or lost fighting for their country, it's them against the MOD. :(

I would like to point you in the direction of this line from my first post
"And if these injuries are genuine, then I support them all the way."

I was merely trying to point that there is good and bad in all walks of life, and that the bbc is no longer unbiased in its opinions, so we have to take these stories with a pinch of salt sometimes.

I would like to say publicly I fully support our fighting people wherever they are. I also have many relatives who have served and died in the past.

My 2p worth.

Given that they will be fully supported by the state in the form of incapacity benefits etc....do they really warrant a golden payout? (possibly applies to all roles).

Plus, if you dont want to get shot at, dont sign up.

(awaits feedback   ;D)

....there is a downside however G  :-/ :-/ - kicks in when you're older and tend to reflect too much :( :(

The panic, confusion, the hope that you haven't blanked one of your own and the awful realization that when the silence does come, that someone you were messing with or talking to earlier just isn't there anymore.

There's no more pitiable sight than broken bodies but it's the eyes of those who were not involved in such incidents that always affected me.  There was pity and sympathy yes, but there was also gladness and secret satisfaction that they weren't there.

Only those who have direct experience of such things get it and generally those emotions are conveyed by the merest glance - a look of certain understanding - that’s all it takes.

Sights, sounds and the malevolent odour of death and destruction can't be readily shaken away. God knows I’ve tried.

Why Zulu! :o :o ::) ::)  You are only saying it as it is daily for our brave soldiers, away from the clinical, safe environment of our civilian lives and the corridors of power who have sent them there!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Then...............for the relatives who lose the child they have brought into this world, nurtured, gone through life's pains and adventures with, loved to the extreme............what do they get?    A f'king knock on the door......"we regret to inform you"................!!!! :'( :'( :'( :'( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

If the politicians want to push our servicemen into wars that are distant from our shores, so not for our immediate home defence, with poor, limited equipment, then let them pay for it when individual lives are destroyed forever!!

My father is still suffering from his Second  World War personal losses, my Great Aunt did the same with that war and the Great War.  What did my father get when he retired from the Royal Navy after 26 years, paying into a pension?  A pension that was taxed as "unearned income"!!!!!!! ::) ::) >:( >:(

This current and past governments just don't give a sod for the people who have served God, Queen & Country!  Never have, and probably never will!! >:( >:( >:( >:(

Phew!!! Rant almost over!! ::) ::) ::) ;) ;)

;D I love the sound of that Ms Zoom :y

I was being a bit indulgent earlier, sometime over-detail isn't the best way to describe any event.

The effect of the sights seen by both myself and the thousands of others shouldn't be held to the throats of those who have not served.

There is a cut-off beyond which graphic detail is counter-productive as people tend to shut out unpleasantness - not unreasonably if truth be told.

Sorry Zulu but that is the dumbing down the government of today and yesterday always want to keep the reality of their actions of war away from the public, as they did in both world wars and produce proganda to keep public support going.  That was especially true in the first years of the Great War, but eventually the truth came out and the public started asking seaching questions.

It is 2009 and now we have worldwide media coverage and thank God politicians can no longer hide all the horror of war from the public, and maybe they will demand a ceasation of war. ::) ::) ::) ;) ;)

Let all the British public know what horrors are being acted out in their name!!

Listening to this today & it's a tricky one. I think most of us agree injuries should be compensated as should any genuine after affects. Sadly in any career services or civilian there are those who will milk it.
Trying to distinguish between the two is a "minefield" (sorry)....  Stewards inquiry on this one. :-/
