Hi folks, just thought I'd share this little tale with you, to see what you think...
On tuesday night, I'd been out at a local park in Aberdeen, for fitness session. (I'm just out of the Royal Marines) It was raining as we finished, & headed for home. As my girlfriend & I got to the park gates, we heard an almighty bang, & saw a cyclist (without helmet) face-plant a Kia something. We're both medics, so ran towards things to help out. The guy wasn't in good nick, head injuries, unconcious, as bad as you can get. (rain now terrential!!) we helped as best we could, i had taken off my daysack, which had waterproofs etc as well as loads of personal kit, ie wallet, i-phone, house keys, the lot. in the ensuing chaos, (a busy roundabout) drivers were still trying to drive through us, so I started to direct traffic, & continued to do this, to help police when they got there. It was only when the paramedics left, & the police cleared the scene, that we noticed that my bag had mysteriously "disappeared"... Despite searching for ages, and checking with the ambulance crew & A&E, the bag was gone. So, soaked & frozen, the police gave us a lift to a mates house, where we had to stay the night, before getting our house opened for us yesterday morning. I'd just like to say that the following have been absolutely top notch with help & advice; Grampian Police, the paramedics for getting there asap, my friends Richard & Carol Anne for putting us up, Clydesdale Bank, for sorting out all my banking stuff, & O2, for sorting out a replacement SIM, & phone, free of charge, due to the circumstances. Not so good, have been my mobile phone insurance company - they have refused to cover me, saying that I technically left the phone unattended (never mind the fact we were trying to stop someone dying!!! Last of all, thanks to the little toe rag who nicked my kit bag, & has caused me a whole world of grief, trying to sort things out over the last two days. You have a load of kit that can't be used, because it's all been stopped/blocked/cancelled. Well done!!!!!
Sorry if that's been a bit of a rant, but I've needed it!!!
Dewar >:(

Some people need stringing up >:(

Bloody frustrating, hope karma pays him back.

I'm a great believer in what goes around come around ;)

Nothing changes
My grandfather collapsed & died on a pavement in 1951 & someone stole his wallet!!

Bastard. Hope he realises what a sh!t he is.

This type of thing makes my blood boil and wonder if we are not surrounded by toe rags who have no morals, a complete lack of respect for others, and are devoid of all notion of what is right :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o.
There was you helping a badly injured person and there was somebody evil enough to do this to you without second thought! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
I am mean't to be a Christian who forgives all; 'dangle berries'!!! This person should have a quick ticket to hell and may he (or she!) be racked with eternal pain!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
That's my rant over as well! ;)
-
Shame on the insurance company...why do we pay the premium for? Is there any chance you have highlight this case in local news papers to name and shame the insurance company?
The person who stole the sack will pay some day but the insurance company will never as it is not human & karma does not apply to it..

Have you just demonstrated how artificial Christianity (& for that matter all religions) are?
Our genes program us to try to take advantage of any situation, we are after all only another species of animal trying to survive & pass on our genetic material. There is no other reason for life to exist in any genus.

No Pitchfork, the after life exists and as these toe rags will find out, unless they seriously repent, so does hell! ::) ::) ::) ::) ;) ;) Jesus, and I only take notice of his teachings, not any politically motivated church based 'religion', made that very clear. :D :D :D ;)

Not sure where politics crept into the matter, unless it's a given that on this forum 'Yea verily, Daily Mail readers shalt hang all miscreats from the nearest lamp-post' [smiley=evil.gif]

That'l be Bordon then!!

dewar, your actions are to be applauded. Yep, your bag's gone and the attitude of the insurance company is disgraceful.
That said, your assistance to the injured party (any news on his condition?) demonstrates clearly that we, as humans are not as Pitchfork suggests, just another life form. You helped a fellow human despite the difficulties of the situation and may well have saved his life. The possessions you lost are merely that: transitory material possessions. In a month or two, that loss will be forgotten. Your humanity, however, cannot be swiped by either a toerag or a king. Your act of charity will always be remembered by those directly involved. Better a hero with no mobile, than a coward with the latest Nokia. :y

Hi folks, just thought I'd share this little tale with you, to see what you think...
When one steps up in this fair land of today, one can frequently become the victim.
There's little else to do however, those in need must be helped and I salute the action taken by you both. 8-) 8-) :y :y
Welcome home, my son, to a land of empty and gutless individuals always looking for the main chance to profit from the misfortune of others!!
-
Hi all, thanks for your comments. I've almost got everything sorted, new phone & sim, FoC courtesy of O2, I had all of my replacement cards by Saturday lunchtime. Just trying to chase up my new driving licence now. New daysack & jackets will come with time.
All said & done, I'd do the same again any day!!
;D

I very much doubt it....even if he can read.

good point there! my other thought is that whoever got the very cheap i-phone that was totally scrambled & forever unusable last week will now know where it came from. i'm still raging at insurance company for getting out of paying though!

As said it may be worth having a word with the insurance company and explain to them that if they don't look on your situation favourably taking into consideration the circumstances of your loss there are a couple of national newspapers interested in your "good samaritan" story and of coarse they would report on the name of the insurance company in question. ::)
Back to the main subject of the story, Well done both of you :y

A quick update for everyone who has been looking in on my ranting & raving!
Yesterday, the Aberdeen Evening Express ran a copy of the story. Shortly before I did this, I contacted the insurance company one last time, telling them that I would refer the reporter to them for comment. Within 5 minutes of the reporter calling them, they were on the phone, offering to sort things out asap.
Now, the story would end reasonably happily here, but, in the best tradition of these things, there is, a happy, twist in the tale. At lunchtime today, I received a phone call from Grampian Police, to say that as a direct result of the story yesterday, someone had handed the day-sack in, complete with all contents!!! I was then called by the cyclists wife, via the paper, in order to say thanks, and that she wanted to speak to us in person. Her husband, James, is due to leave hospital later this week, and is expected to make a full & speedy recovery.
So, I just wanted to let you all know how things have ended, and to thank once again everyone who has helped me.
Last but not least, thanks to all of you who have left comments, and given advice etc - especially when I was still raging!!
It seems that there are people with a tiny bit of decency out there... Or was it the pic in the paper? I'm a big lad, & i wasn't looking too happy............ 8-)

Nice result .. pity it took so much to "shame" the culprit into giving your stuff back ... but at least you got it.
And the news about the guy should make you feel pretty proud about what you did.
:y :y :y :y

Pitchfork. You have a point regarding instinct but most of no longer live in the wild & have progressed a little so you're talking tosh, morals have a bearing here. Lizzie. As a devout atheist (or realist) I cannot agree with your or any others religion. They are all faiths or beliefs. You believe, i don't, but neither of us have solid proof either way. I believe we evolved despite Darwin revoking his theory but i can't prove it, it's just my belief.
What i am 100% sure about is should this immoral miscreant ever come to light dewar should be allowed to execute any "services" punishment he deems appropriate. I feel this would fit the bill.
-
Just read through this post.
Glad to read that you had a favourable outcome and the guy you helped is on the mend.
