Title: itv hd on sky via google
Post by: feeutfo on 02 August 2009, 02:07:44
not sure, but suspect forum rules may restrict discussion of this topic. So dont search via google for instructions on how to add itvhd channel to sky hd. That would be bad and probably breach freesat copyright or something. It is possible but probably illegal so DONT do it, it will only add to your other channels list and only if you have the latest minitv epg, and will not allow sky+ features to record etc. Plus the hd content is so limited its barely worth bothering with which is a shame considering the appaling quality of itv on digital. So DONT search google for instructions to add this channel or discuss the subject on here  as it may upset Admin...."may"..... :-)  ::)  :-X

if wrong the thread will/should get nuked.

But why would/should it be a problem to add ITV HD to a Sky HD box.

I found the info on annother forum and tried it.  My box says the frequeny is out of the tuning range.  very clever.  NOT >:(

afaik it is not illegal and has been covered here before.

Its just adding the channel manually, like youve always been able to do for all the itv regions (they are just not on the EPG like the BBC ones  >:( )

It is broadcast unencrypted and open so there is no legal problems using any DSAT receiver.

That said AFAIK only PC cards and Freesat boxes can handle it properly.

Thanks JB. Suspected as much but was not sure. Just covering forums and my arse(with admin) a bit if there was an issue. Some may be interested. But as tunnie says there is break all on itv of interest to me now that footy season is over and bsb is now on eurosport, far better presentation anyway which is saying something for eurosport, but may come in handy once champions league starts. Have yet to see the channel broadcast anything at all so far. Seems rather pathetic imho. Thought freesat where pushing this non channel when advertising their service? Might keep quiet if i where them. Rubbish!

Found this for Sky HD users.

You need the new EPG to get ITV HD and it's not available for Amstrad & Samsung boxes yet. Only Thomson & Pace boxes have it.

mines an Amstrad, and the tuning range is locked so I cant get ITV HD.

That sounds a bit crap to me.

Perhaps you ought to push it.

Was confirmed regards the EPG by the "installer" so maybe the EPG upgrade gives more scope.

i like the look of the new EPG, should be fun.

After the channel upgrade on that link I think the very last pic said it all.

ITV actually have 3 or 4 programmes a week in HD

The Bill is now in it (not that I watch) KIndom was HD (looked good). Yes I use a whole PVR just for BBC HD at the moment ::)

Not much on there either  :(....whens the switch over again? and will we see an improvement in content?  sky currently list 35 hd cannels. seen all the movies and sports breaks me off due to footy(espn to replaice setanta so still 2 subs for all the prem games)and 2 box office, so that leaves 17 viewable, 4, mtv, luxe, sky arts 1and2 are utter dross, leaves 13, 50% of those are either repeats or not showing hd leaves about 7 of use for tenner a month..... >:(

It's a bit clunky to watch on Sky - can't pause or record the channel and it has to be tuned manually on each occasion you want to watch.

Too much bother in reality [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

defo at the moment. Will be handy when champions league starts. But it is nice to know ALL options are avalabe on sky. Given the content itv hd are showing its about as intergrated on sky as it deserves to be imho.

Indeed Chris, I think ITV's stratagey lies in getting a sound business model settled more than developing the niche services such as HD ;)
