Oil won't run out after 2030 as had been thought......
......more like 2020!
oh, and here's the kicker - after 2010 we're entering an "oil crunch" that will cripple our economy - looks like US may be invading Iran sooner than we thought :y

Iran doesn't have much oil, hence it's nuclear energy requirements

That's OK the bj - you had me worried there for a moment ::) ::) :y
-
Iran contains around 137 billion barrels, thats more than USA, Russia and China combined! only Saudi Arabia has more - I'd say they're a major player - and its the reason the US needs to take Iran.
maybe i'm being simplistic - but oil is the only concern - its why we're in Iraq, it's why we're in Afghanistan (for the pipeline) and it's why we need to be in Iran.

Load of 'dangle berries'. Here's an Irish independent article from 4 years ago about this problem. Saying that "peak oil" will be in 2011.

Same as global warming rubbish, just more media hype.

not at all - i just think that if you're goin to shed blood for oil - at least admit it :y
besides, the US won't have a choice soon - they'll need Irans oil

There is no doubt for me the Iraq war was for oil, weapons of mass destruction (which were never found) was just an excuse to get in.
We also 'bought' our way in, i remember seeing an interesting doucmentry on the behind the scenes stuff that went on.
Considering Iraq had a fairly strong Air Force, we never heard of any dog fights or air-air combat, why? They paid off the Air Force General, with a fat load of cash to keep his planes on the ground.
Saldy, the Americans won't be able to buy their way into Iran, and who ever is Prime Minister when they decide to go in, should have the balls to say "No, we are not helping you"

Unilateral action by Israel may make this a moot point however - despite any entreaties by the US to the contrary :-/

global warming may be debatable (at least the causes of it) but saying you don't think oil will run out?
it's a simple maths problem -
how much oil do we use?
how much oil do we produce?
how much oil is left?
now, lets say all the oil in the ground was available right now (roughly 1200 000 000 000 barrels)
we use, as a planet 85 000 000 barrels a day
- thats less than 40 yrs
add to that the fact that oil consumption is increasing year on year which i havent even factored in
also thats assuming all the oil left could be teleported straight to the surface!

Agreed bj - it's worth that at least - concerning your potential in all things bellicose, I was led to this by the sight of your new avatar ;D ;D :y

Of corse oil will run out but I dont think it will be for along time yet.

Ever since my teens all I have heard is that oil is going to run out.......year in, year out, along with the claim that wars will be fought over drinking water!!
Yet, in the case of oil, we get new reports over the decades that a new oil field with "many billions of barrels" has been found!
What is a better way for the oil industry to maintain and justify high prices, especially at the garage fuel pumps, than claim "oil is running out"?? They are playing the supply and demand game to perfection to their advantage!
Am I just being cynical?? I don't think so as I have now "been here" in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and now 2000s!! Why should I think any different?? :P :P :P
