I, by the Grace of God, have not had to go through such an ordeal, however, just reading this brought tears to my eyes. I cannot imagine the grief of these poor parents and am incensed at the sheer ignorance of the council -- of all the circumstances from which to make money  >:( >:(

I think the vicar should have known what was likely to happen and could have been more careful.

My view of crematoriums is that they run to tight schedules and I would not expect to be able to extend a booking at the last moment.

The lady could probably have done with more relatives to support her.

so every case would have extenuating circumstances surely?......"OF COURSE"!

Estate agent mentality is everywhere these days it seems to me.

how can human grief be extenuating?

having been to more funerals than I'd like lately I feel there is a natural timing to it all, and that should be the way it is. Sensitive funeral and crematorium operators are very capable of ensuring folks move on in good time without being heavy handed but always sympathetic.

On another note Wayne, my sympathies go to you and your family for the past losses. this news must've brought up sad memories.

Just to stimulate debate, lets look at the other side of the story - they obviously have other ceromonies during the day, and have to prepare for those.  Crownhill Crem (I assume it was Crownhill) covers a large population area, and I know is a fairly busy place....

well noticed
But surley they have a certian ammount of time between cerimonies that they can compensate for such things?

I guess so.  Though we all know that the media like to make a story, so maybe the grieving mother (only seems to be the mother from the local news) well overstayed her welcome...   :-/

I'm sure the crem organisers would build in some flexibility on timings - though that said, it does have a large catchment area

Heard this today in the truck. WTbreak are these "officials" thinking? (Or not thinking). I know two wrongs don't make a right but had i been there i'd be facing an assault charge now, red mist etc.
      Frickin' unforgivable. >:( >:( >:(

Admittedly they have a timetable to stick to, as far as possible. But the guys at the crem should (SHOULD) be well trained in dealing with grieving relatives in a sympathetic manner --- a "fine" (which is what this amounts to) is simply cold blooded, daylight robbery.

Fair point well made. Other families have loved ones to lay to rest & are equally grieving & deserving of their time but i believe the Vicar offered this Mum a while longer to say goodbye.
Should he not have mentioned any incurring charges? ::)

Exactly. IMHO, the disgrace here is that she was charged for an extra few minutes. I'm sure if the crematorium had been busy or another family were due in, she would have been tactfully asked to move on rather than offered more time.

This attitude seems very prevalent in this country nowadays. These people used to be known as public servants, and generally speaking they behaved as such.
It now often seems that this has been turned upside down and they seem to be trained to never miss an opportunity to let the public know who is in charge. Its disgusting and heads should roll because of this ,but they wont. >:(

Sadly i think you're right. This is immoral & a disgrace.
Folk get gross misconduct resulting in instant dismissal for smoking in the the loo or other such relative trivialities. Whoever is responsible should be fired, named & shamed. >:( :'(
