Title: Robinphobic?
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 09 August 2009, 10:59:45
I think that I must be still suffering from Robinphobic thought, a condition I have had since knowing "nutty Ron" with his Reliant Robin 3-wheeler in the late 1960s, early 1970s!! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Yesterday on my travels saw a blue T reg example, but then the real cracker, a red S reg "LX"!!! :o :o :o :o

"LX"??  When could a Robin ever had a "Luxury Exective" trim level???!!!!! :-/ :-/ :-/  Come on!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

The Robin I saw in small bits, apart from the seats and engine, laying on the road in about 1973 on the South Circular certainly never had that finish! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Anyway, is there a cure on this lovely Sunday morning, with me full of humour, to my Robinphobia?? :-/ :-/ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

They just make me crack up, balancing on their three wheels, so thank God there are only a few around now!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

But have you seen how much they're advertised for sale at? They sell for far higher prices than a similar aged Omega  :o  :o  :o  ;)

Yes, like with the old 2CV, you go around corners or just go through strong winds with your door handle touching the ground!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Been there ,done that,it was hilarious.Especially the look on the face of the bloke who owned it.
had it right up on 2 wheels as well, thought it was going to tip over but it wavered at the balance point and then fell down the right way. ;D ;D

Wow Zulu!! :o :o :o  A  V8 Robin!!! :o :o :o :o :o

I was expecting the driver to turn the engine at full revs and flip the thing over with the torque!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I reckon opened up fully on a motorway, if it didn't flip over it would take off!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

My Robinphobia is not going away!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am actually quite taken with the idea of acquiring a Kitten(that,s the 4 wheeled version) and putting a big bike engine in it.175 bhp in something that weighs next to nothing would be great fun. :)

Well Lizzie, the R.R's surely must be a lot cooler than those pale blue 3-wheel disabled carriages that used to be on the roads !!.  2-stroke, loads of noise and I believe a top speed of 40mph if you were lucky ?. you couldn't carry anything in them !!.
And wouldn't what to think of the lap record if the Stig took one of the around the track  ;D

Have a look at this website (http://www.beardmorebros.co.uk/) then, Robin is a friend of mine and completely mental! His Kitten is currently being upgraded to an LS1 and the lowlight Morris Minor is a gem (and for sale too!).

Many years ago (?) had a disabled mate that when he was 16 was told that he could have one of those carriages if he wanted to, and he could have indepence going to school and about.....

Would love to put what his answer was........

but as they say in printing circles "were not allowed to put into print".

What I can say is part of the answer was "I would rather have my......".  You get the picture !  ::)  ;D.

Like the idea of a big CC bike engine in one of the Robins though.  :y

Sweet....  Love to see the face of a Porshe or Ferrari owner as it gets off the lights quicker than their thousands of pounds machine.

Use the Kitten version with the turbo'ed booster engine.......

Don't get me started on ideas Lee  ;D

Taken from http://www.virtualgaz.com/invacarpage.htm ......

Quote
There were still around 200 Invacars in daily use around Britain prior to the March 2003 recall and scrapping program. It is now illegal to drive one on the British highway. They were all owned by the Government and leased to disabled drivers as part of their disability benefit, if they so wished. The earlier models took the Villiers motorcycle engine but in the early '70's after their production halted, the Invacar utilised the Steyr-Puch 500cc & 600cc units.
