Title: What a weekend
Post by: Elite Pete on 09 August 2009, 10:58:20
The wifey was off on Friday so we went to Lake Vyrnwy in the land of my fathers for a picnic and long walk. The weather was brilliant and we were in the MX5 with the roof off so i've caught the sun and look like a greek god ::)(yeah right). On the way home we stopped off at my brother-in-laws farm in Whitchurch so he told us we were staying the night and after a bit of clay pidgeon shooting, riding his trail motor bikes and his John Deere Gator (banana splits vehicle 6 wheel thing) around the farm, we opened the beer and ordered a take away and I got a little bit drunk ::). Saturday morning we were awoken early with bacon and eggs and then told we were doing the hay baling, I was lucky because I had to be in Liverpool for 1 oclock but went back to Whitchurch afterwards and finished at just past midnight last night. They will be at it again today but i've got a pass as I have to do my own fencing to do. My brother in law is playing at being a farmer as he only has a few Welsh Black cattle but when he has to work it is hard and gives you an insight as to how hard a real farmer works. I know I couldn't do it full time.

Gators are great bits of kit. We have a couple at the gliding club for towing recently-landed aircraft off the airfield.

Try one at 5 o'clock on a cold winter morning, on a tarmac runway covered by a layer of black ice. ;D

......and depending on the nature of the final product mostly for the benefit of the retailer's bottom line.

Support you local farms - without them, when the crunch comes, many will wish they had  :y :y

The pic with the car on is the road between Bala Lake and Lake Vyrnwy and only came across a couple of cyclists all the way along it. Pity I had the speed limiter with me ::)

Glad you enjoyed your weekend Pete. I'm having trouble settling back to the view of our estate out the window after a week on the North Yorkshire moors :(

Wasn't very happy with Goathland, just money for crappy giftshop stuff. Got a pic of the anglia though.

Climbed the 199 steps up to the abbey (not bad for an old fella) and took this:
