If your flying with sleasyjet check what I.D they accept. They prefer a passport no matter where you are flying from/to but I think they will accept 1 or 2 other forms of I.D. :y

In the generally accepted sense of using the passport to identify the country of origin of the traveller, it's unnecessary.

Many carry it for purposes of having a photo ID however so I would imagine that if you were to have an alternative means of photo ID, to satisfy airport security, you could leave the passport at home :y

It is sensible to have some form of photo ID all the same, whatever you take.

If you're going for a drinking session, probably best to leave the passport at home then!  :y

If you're using EasyJet, the following is found in section 8 of their T&C's

The airline requires all passengers to provide photographic ID at check-in on all flights including domestic services. Passengers who use the online check-in service will be required to provide photographic ID at the security gate and again at the boarding gate.

As mentioned, no you don't but some airlines will require one.

Ryanair do require one I know for a fact as I travel with them from Bournemouth to Edinburgh. As said, check what forms of ID they will accept, whoever you choose.

I can't see how they could request one for UK internal - I have no passport and I have flown to Belfast a couple of times.

Also ferry to Rosslare - no ID at all

I went to Belfast last year, flew with flybe. Never needed a passport.

When I flew to Southampton the year before, flew with flybe. Never needed a passport.

So, try Flybe.

As has already been said, a photo licence should be enough id, but it does depend on the Airline.

BTW, where is your Jock boozeathon going to be held?
I can recommend a few places if you so desire.

I'll set the record straight here, you do need a scottish passport to fly internally or even cross the border into scotland, you can buy the passports at most reputable service stations in scotland only, in addition to this a string vest and a bottle of malt whisky is also acceptable at check in............Oh and a bandage roond the heed ;D ;D
