Title: I love Vodafone. Not.
Post by: TheBoy on 18 August 2009, 10:53:52
They just sent me a text, just this second arrived, to say I missed a call on the 15th!!

Now I know I live in a weak signal area (though according to Vodafones coverage map I have strong 3g signal here), but 3 days for a text is ridiculous

Whats the point of that. The whole point of texts and phones is that its immediate. When I'm back in the UK, the 3G+ broadband coverage within Greater London is very poor and sometimes non existent. Bit of a rip off when you buy their broadband dongle.

Another service enhancement. You read the hype, it all sounds good and part with your hard earned money but then it doesn't deliver.

I was talking to someone the other day who is lucky enough to have Broadband here in Spain. His service is via Telefonica (the giant company here) and he upgraded from 3 meg to 10 Meg and found the service disappears most days from 11a.m. to 11 p.m. Turns out it is a common problem for customers near the limit from the exchange. Despite the obvious inconvenience he soldiers on as he uses mostly early morning! meanwhile telefonica continue to pat themselves on the back for doing a great job. Sound familiar?

I've been through that before (I'm not sure if it was Vodaphone or Virgin 'cos i changed sometime) but I was told that they retried text deliveries for 72hours and then gave up.  When the content is "I'm at the station. Can you pick me up as it's 01:30" it is quite galling to get it after several hours.

To be fair, if you've ever tried to wish people a happy new year, you will know that the airwaves can get quite clogged at times.

However, when 95% of texts get through within minutes, it catches you unawares when one takes a long time.

The only solution is to switch on Status Reporting to let you know it's been delivered, and not use texting for time-critical communications.
