Yes... in a £100 senator (albeit a very good one)... :-/
Am I worried? Heck yes!
Now how much for new discs and pads....
-
a rear wheel drive car will own and front wheel heavy cars looking at that road!!
Can you mount a camera on the dash or something m8? Be cool to watch
-
We will be recording the event... however i suspect it will not be suitable for a younger audience due to the language used... mainly by Mark who is not the most "tolerant" of drivers! ;D
-
...just dont look out the windows Dave - at the drop! :-?
-
If you are not on your own in the car(!), get someone to take pictures and then post them here...

We could always edit it to beep out the language... although i suspect we might have 2 hours of beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

I am also in the car......might invest in a small external cam and mount it behind the front wheel ala Italian Job style...
-
Now that would be a brilliant idea Mark !! worth seeing that :)

Ooooo... the Italian Job hairpin bus drive did not end all that well.... ;D
Looking forward to see the footage though!

Having extensively researched the subject (err...I typed it into google), it seems that the pictures above were taken from the first line of results in google, so for those of you who are too lazy to look it up, here's a selection of interesting links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stelvio_Pass
'The Stelvio Pass is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps at 2757m... The original road was built in 1820-1825 by the Austrians to connect the former Austrian province of Lombardia with the rest of Austria, covering a climb of 1871m. Since then, the route has changed very little. The 60 hairpin bends, 48 of them on the northern side numbered with stones, are a challenge to motorists. Even Stirling Moss went off the road here during a vintage car event in the 1990s, with an onboard video of his incident (Cor blimey!) being shown on satellite TV.' (from wikipedia)
Looks like fun! ;D

Parachute for when the brakes start to overheat?
In fact, do they make ceramic discs for a senator?

;D
We are taking replacement fluid (and brake bleeding kit) and even a spare set of front brake pads!
I think ours will be ok, but I am not so sure about some of the other cars.... ::)

You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!
-
'Ang about Dave!
Didn't you get the mail from Justin regarding the change of pass?
Apparently we've got the choice of two, but you only get points if you drive up the cobbled one!!! :o
Apparently we're doing "La Tremola" and is the original St Gotthard Pass. Looks good!! :-?
-
you going too big rod !?
whats your chariot mate? ;D
-
there are some roads in the world i would love to drive, this is one of them.
Technical, a challenge but also beautiful scenery and most likely a joy to drive with a car whose engine makes all the right noises.........but it would have to be a manual..
i can just hear a nice air colled flat six blatting along there now....ahh what an experience
-
Rod,
Nope, no knowledge of any change of pass. Maybe it just applies to you S2N guys? :-?
No comments about it on the forum either...
Markie. Yes Big Rod is doing the Staples to Naples run. Same thing, just a different route.
And he is taking ..... an Omega! ;)
Albeit a very tired Omega...with a Calibra engine! ;D

Hey!
It's all MOT'd and taxed now! took it out for a spin at the weekend. Interesting red flashing light on the dash when it redlines!! Don't thnk it's actually meant to do it :o The speedo has a mind of it's own as has the interior light and sunroof.
Now all I got to do it get the thing decorated and shake it down good and proper!!
I thought the news of the new pass was sent to all S2N/CRX bod's. Oh well. I'll post up pics of the new pass if we make it.
-
I have already started working on the wife - guessing theres one next year?
Id love to be involved in something like this - any ideas just how many cars are expected?
-
If memory serves Markie, there's about 120 teams on S2N.
I think there's still space on one of the events this year, (CRX?), but might be a bit short notice for you.
I think it's a fair bet that there'll be events run next year. I believe the American, (BABE, Big Apple to Big Easy) is already being organised. I'm toying with the idea of doing that next year, but we'll have to see.
