3 times recently I have received email saying that there has been a problem making a pay pal payment and asking me to update my account details. Well, firstly I have not ued my pay pal account recently and the odd time it has the payment was successful. Secondly, I only tried the link out of curiosity, I clicked on th link and got a message about phishing?? or something like that.
Anyway I contacted pay pal who got back to me to say they have checked my account and they do not have any problems with it and confirm they have not been in contact with me about it. They asked me to send them the emails, and gave me loads of 'protection' advice..... :)

Is that a no no if suspicious then??

I send dodgy emails to: spoof@paypal.co.uk.
They then check the email and advise whether it's good or bad.

An email in itself usually wont do any harm, we all get them every day. It's only when you follow the link that you can be directed to a site which CAN download all sorts of nasties. Never click a link in an unsolicited email

Dont view images in unsolicted emails either.
they know your mail client has downloaded them from their server, and then marks your email address as valid....and you will get even more spam :y

Paypal never send emails about security issues. Like most banks etc they post issues on the home page as you log in.

That's worth noting, thanks.. :y
I have received similar requests from banks, where I have not even had accounts for them ::)

If you are uncertain of an email, right click and check the properties of the sender, if still uncertain then delete it.
A big tell taale is when you get a request from a bank you dont belong to, annother tell tale is a reply address to a bank like HBS@yahoo.com (As if they would use yahoo)

May be an idea to run a system scan.
If you've not got something I'd recommend Avira Antivir. The free version can be downloaded from Tucows
Takes quite a while though, as it runs through everything. Takes 6+ hours to complete on mine, so I usually run it overnight, once a month.

New message from them;
Hello MIKE FLOOD,
Thanks for forwarding that suspicious-looking email. You're right - it

personal information through phishing emails and fake websites. To learn
more about online safety, click "Security Center" on any PayPal webpage.
Every email counts. When you forward suspicious-looking emails to
spoof@paypal.com, you help keep yourself and others safe from identity
theft.
Your account security is very important to us, so we appreciate your
extra effort.
Thanks,

As a rule Mike, just dont follow links from any email. I got one from BT the other day, telling me that my ebill was ready to view and offering a link straight to my account. I deleted the email and logged in to my account via BT's website.
It's just safer. ;)
