It's bank holiday and our electricity supply is down to 190 volts!!! >:(
This happened last bank holiday and resulted in the electricity company coming out and digging up the road, changing our supply on to a new spur, filling the hole and going again!
Problem solved! ........or so we thought! >:( >:(
Watch this space!!!!!!

the old saga....

lets see if the service is as good this time :y

Sounds like the 'old spur' was getting overloaded.....so by switching you to another one....sorted it.....trouble is they probably swapped everyone else with a problem to that spur as well....now that one is getting overloaded too....bet they swap you back again ::) ;D

You are aware that you can sue your supplier for failing to maintain a constant (within 10%) voltage supply & frequency?
PS
Your fixed figure for working out the 10% variable is 230 volts in the UK (that means 23 volts either way from the 230V).

Mains supply or Jimbob?

Phone call from help desk, we are 1 of 196 with the same problem! Engineers are working on it and we should have power back by 9 pm!
158 volts!

Currently both!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Count yourself lucky your PC uses a switched mode PSU then, otherwise you wouldn't be online at all to complain about it ;D

All well & good until you realise the unsecured broadband is fed from the same phase as you ;)

No one else is reporting problems, its linked to the phase we were changed on to in may! ;)

You'll be surprised at just what electrical equipment will tolerate before it fails

I'd consider a better quality PSU then, mine works quite happily at 93V here in the UK where 230V is the norm (tested after the seemingly outrageous claims from the manufacturer).

Your TV obviously has a better quality PSU than your PC ;)

93 v :-? I think its below any expectation, anyway I have 2*2.5K ups so doesnt matter now..
-
93 v :-? I think its below any expectation,
Of course it's way below any expectation, but as the manufacturer of my PSU (Silverstone) claimed it would deliver 1000W across the 4 rails while working anywhere between 90V and 250V, I just had to test it to see if it was true (and 93V is close enough to 90V for me).

Just wait till Ljay fires the Rabbit up, there will be a blackout in Chester ::)

Not our direct neighbours! ;)
Plus we have a couple of 3G cards knocking around somewhere! ;)

Oy! I resemble that remark!!!!!! ;) ;)

Full service has been resumed! Phew! :D

Your direct neighbours won't come off the same phase as you, the grid wouldn't be able to work in the fashion it does if they did.

Thought I told you that when you mentioned broadband access!
Hello, electricians daughter here! ;D ;D ;D

My eldest could sign up and say the same, doesn't mean she knows what she's talking about though ;) ;) ;)
PS
The above is nothing more than a bit of light hearted piss taking....no offence meant or implied.

In my experience, a sudden change of input voltage can cause PC to crash as the PSU doesn't always recover quick enough, or worse still, spikes. This is why I tend to use UPS.
I had a Silverstone PSU3 or 4 yrs ago, binned it (after Sammy educated it) as was unimpressed. Wasn't a biggie, around 530W or similar iirc. Chucked an old cheapie back in, and stability returned.
My mum has the worlds worse electrical supply, its all over the place. Power cuts happen at least once a month, and normally kills something when power returns. She has had zero success in legal routes. That said, its probably her fault - she has a 3 phase leccy boiler :o

Whats electricity??? is it that new fangled device?? ::)

Funny! We were asking ourselves that earlier! ;D ;D ;D

Ours does, overhead line, comes into our house and then back out along the back of our houses and into the neighbours. 1930's semi's, guess that would make a difference. :)

I thought mine did, until I realised it was an aborted attempt at communal TV. Been up since the 80's apparently.
I was thinking of going around my neighbours and asking them if they wanted me to get rid of those 'nuisance' wires around their house ::)
Copper fetches a good price now, but I'd be too lazy to strip it and cooking it is out of the question these days. :(

It is! As long as I have a good stock of batteries I don't care what the electricity does!!!! ;)
