Title: Back To Normal.
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 08 September 2009, 09:50:12
Noticed a big difference in speed on the net since the kids went back to schcool.  Not being on cable and being in a ruraal village it has been more noticable on the page loading than other holidays.  I used to live with in 1/2 mile of my main/manned exchange before where as I have no idea how far I am away from my current one.

As TB the speed indicators mean bugga all, but when you get used to something you know when it runs slower, especially in the school hols.

As a matter of interest, are there any programs  out there that monitor this sort of thing.

TIA.  :y

I wonder if that was why You Tube was running more slowly in the evening over this past while? :-/

Or was that just me? :-/

Or my cobbled together box? :-/

If your router supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), then MRTG is what you want.

If your router doesn't support SNMP, then you'll either have to get one that does, set up a proxy at home, or install monitoring software on each PC and manually check the logs on each.

I'll assume you are talking ADSL, how much were you thinking of spending?

Also, what model of router were you considering from Netgear?
